It’s kind of wild how some of y’all defend Kelly across the board

I understand thinking he’s a good coach and has come in and turned the program around after a really bad situation, but it’s like some of you refuse to acknowledge his shortcomings.

His coaching hires have been hit and miss. The misses have been absolutely detrimental.

His ability to give games away that we’re in position to win has been incredibly frustrating. Whether that’s taking our foot off the gas or not staying locked in for 4 quarters.

His inability to ever take responsibility is concerning. It’s always something, saying things like “these are the guys we have to play with.” Insinuating he’s not given the talent to compete…at LSU.

The guy is a good coach. A hell of a lot better than most out there. But I have yet to see a single game in 3 years where we look like an elite football team in all 3 aspects of the game.

That’s a problem and it’s okay to acknowledge it.

Great post. I only take exception to this:

That’s obviously (to me) a put your money where your mouth is bc we need more money to pay our players/recruits

i haven’t seen anyone defend him across the board unilaterally.

Kelly (and the team) have issues.
Issues that need fixing.

just because most level headed posters don’t have their pitchforks out doesn’t mean they think he’s flawless.

I would love to know the percentage of games since he has been at LSU in which he has had to address special teams problems in the post game. It’s gotta be above 50% right?

I think he is a decent coach. He isn’t 10 million a year good. Not even at the insane coaching salaries of today.

That’s horseshite. He’s the 8th highest paid coach in college football. That’s high, but it isn’t even close “Saban high” today. And the next 5 in line are within a million dollars of him and none has accomplished any more than he has. He’s getting paid just like other P5 coaches at larger programs.

Anyone who coaches here is going to make this kind of salary. Some of you are just too stupid to not do a Google search and keep falling back on this crutch.

Kelly needs to be better. There’s no doubt he has flaws. He needs to earn the money he’s paid, but the overpay argument is just brain dead at this point.

The only thing elite about Brian Kelly is his salary & buyout!

It's fine to acknowledge it. it's another to smother the entire board with hyperbole and complete utter melts regarding the program.

I don't think Kelly deserves a pass at all for hiring House, Steeples and the slew of shitty DL coaches, but there's nothing I can do about it. To me that was the critical mistake that has made the rebuilding process take that much longer.

And I completely agree about a complete game. We haven't seen it since Alabama in 2022. Maybe it'l reappear in 2024 Alabama.

Saban was the gold standard, but even he had some poor hires that had negative effects. Remember him going to Steele and BOB not all that long ago? BOB probably cost him a last title shot.

BK is a carpetbagger from up north. Some people fell for those charlatans too. Simple-minded folk see the nice suit and hear words they don't know and automatically think he knows everything about football and we should be so lucky to be in his presence. It's even more obvious since we went from Coach O to Kelly.

He is getting elite pay. The only coaches above him in pay that I would want are Sark, Kirby, and possibly Lincoln. The fact that we are so one dimensional on offense is very concerning to me. We are literally Les Miles bad as far as being one sided on offense. It’s just the opposite of run only.

He’s what he’s always been. , win 9-10 games a year not no national championship.

100% correct . The expectation with his hire was that he would compete for a Natty . We are not even close . Zero run game . You mean to tell me we cant find one big dude to carry the rock ?! Why will Nuss almost never run ? What is up with that ? Should have put the backup QB in after the NUSS meltdown .
It is Kelly’s responsibility . He is capt of the Titanic .
