Out here burning a fire in my backyard listening to Zeppelin on pandora. How freaking smooth is John Bonham in Fool in the Rain? How about that dirty guitar that comes in about 3/4 through? Right after that crazy sounding solo. IMO the most underrated Zeppelin song.

Horribly sloppy guitar solo in that song.

He was drunk off his arse when he played that.

...and it shows.

Lots of folks without your refined tastes enjoy the solo.

If you’re a drummer and can’t play that groove….you’re actually not much of a drummer.

It’s a classic.

He was extremely fricked up during the recording of that album, but was overshadowed by how fricked up John Bonham was. Interestingly, Plant and Jones were completely sober.....when Plant's child died it very much convinced him to grow up and stop with the drinking and drugs

That album was very much Jones and Plant pushing Led Zeppelin towards a more "progressive" sound.

He was playing "The Purdie Shuffle." (Jeff Porcaro put a similar spin on it in the Toto song "Rosanna"):

So, you like The Crunge better than Fool in the Rain?

Interdasting...

I do. The Crunge is one of the most interesting songs they ever wrote.

I'll also add that I love Fool in the Rain.

I love that solo. But I don't like "clean" guitar playing.

Came to post this. So many great drum parts use it through all genres.

The Crunge is basically the first red hot chili peppers song

the RHCP built an entire career and catalogue off the style of that song

the crunge was sort of a Led Zep homage to James Brown made up in a jam session
