Conner Weigman is a better QB when he is pressured.

Conner Weigman’s PFF grade when under pressure is 81.0 and 58.3 when kept clean. The LSU defense has been better at rushing the QB this year but, considering this stat, is this the game where playing a zone, stopping the run, spying the QB, will be a better option for the defensive strategy? Is this something we will see Baker implement. Additionally, Weigman is a good scrambling QB. Playing more man and rushing the passer could open up a lot of running room for him. I am all for pressuring the QB and I love that defensive philosophy, but it seems like this might be the wrong strategy for this game.

Rush 3 drop 8. Leave 1 of the 3 to spy.

Hell no, rush three spy an extra. You cannot only bring two man pressure.

A&M is going to run. They don’t trust Weigman.

Let Weeks and co put him in the dirt a few times and see how good he is after that.

I say send blitz on obvious pass downs.. There was 3-4 times we would have got Arky QB for a sack on 3rd down but he was too fast.

Weigman can and will shite the bed if he is pressed

Someone watched the PFF prediction video.

BTW they both picked LSU by a hair.

LSU has a 40.8 PFF Rush grade which is 7th best in CFB. Just as a comparison we were ranked 103rd last year.

Stop their running game and we win by 10. Force their QB to make the difficult throws

Then you delay the blitz and use stunts.
We did some nice stuff like this against Ark

Yeah....I agree...I'm calling BS on that stat....we aren't talking a little pressure, we are talking about knocking his D in the dirt.

That’s about what the OP suggested.

LSU trying to make Conner Weigman crumble is a very risky gamble. He's shown that he's a fighter and that he bounces back, and if he stands tall in the pocket, he can certainly make LSU pay for blitzing. Our OLine, while not superb, is better than Arkansas.

On a more concrete X's and O's note, expect to see some draws and quick pitchouts to Moss and Daniels to counter the blitzes. Klein's going to keep the defense honest.

not really. he struggles to read coverage. I do worry though when he breaks the pocket.

Weigmans stats when pressured are 10 for 22, 141 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Yeah I'm still getting after him all game with stats like that...He's had a few scrambles but certainly not enough good ones to make me feel like I should be be rushing 3 and dropping 8 all game

The whole point should be confusion and rattling him. You don't just do one thing.

You do everything.

Blitz when he doesn't expect it. Drop 8 when he doesn't expect it.

Just let the front 4 rush and play 7 in coverage. Do not do a rush 3 drop 8.
