I think at some point Nuss has to run the ball if it’s available on the RPO. Defenses will start crashing down every time they do a RPO until Nuss can prove other wise. Just my opinion.

He chooses to run the ball all the time on the RPO when he hands off to the running back.

RPO is Run “Pass” Option. Either going to be a hand off to back or qb pass.

You are probably thinking zone read or read option. Which is only a running play, either by rb or qb. QB makes decision to hand off or keep typically based off the DEs movement. Now you know

At some point they have to call the zone read and take away the option piece of it. Fake the hand-off and pull that thing like it's a tug-o-war

Except everyone who starts this thread doesn’t know what a RPO is.

I am honestly amazed that we have this thread 3x a week and people still don’t know what an RPO is.

RPO does include a run by the QB or the RB. The read option is just a subset of the RPO.

Are we going to do this same RPO-Zone Read shite every week?

Chicken- you need an introduction to football video that posters need to watch yearly and pass a quiz before week 1. Damn.

Holy fricking shite THIS. All of you go buy NCAA 25 and figure this shite out.

Recruit yourself a good dual threat and the RPO absolutely kills in that game. Then mix in some ZONE READ for good measure. If you don’t know which is which, you will lose a lot of yardage until you figure it out.

Do your homework, people.

Daniels would occasionally run a triple option zone read where Taylor would be a pass option in the flat if he pulled. But this is a lot less common. Unless you are talking about Wake Forest’s slow mesh weirdness, RPOs are meant to be a fast one or two route pass read or give. That’s it. Adding the third option takes a great athlete at QB because it becomes a much longer developing play if you keep the mesh with the RB.

that’s not how or why a zone read works.

The whole point is to either a. Leave an unblocked DE frozen to stop the QB this giving you favorable number blocking for thr RB or b. send the whole defense including the unblocked DE pursuing the RB leaving the QB free to run.

If you just design a QB run that looks like a read option you either have th block the DE or risk him smoking your QB.

No. It does not. If the QB runs, its because the play got blown up

An RPO is defined by its blocking. If he hands it off, then the OLine releases to block downfield. Same with the WRs. If he options to the pass, the WRs CANNOT block, and the OLine has to remain in pass protect

There is no 3rd option for the QB to keep the ball. Because he would basically be a sitting duck, with no blockers trying to create a gap, nor get out in front

A zone read (or read option) is a run from the start. Everyone run blocks. The QB reads the "zones" and decides if its best for the RB to take his path, or keep it and take a different path. There is no passing option here, because everyone is run blocking

LSU has rarely called a zone read with Nuss. A draw maybe, but not a run option

At this point anyone who says RPO when they mean read option should get their posting privileges revoked for a week.
