A former senior energy industry executive was found dead following a suspected suicide, Russia's state media reported, in the latest mysterious death of one of the country's elite.

Mikhail Rogachev, 64, who was the former vice president of the disbanded energy firm Yukos, died after falling from a window, the TASS and RIA Novosti news agencies reported at the weekend.

A law enforcement source told Tass that Rogachev's body was found in Protopovsky Lane in the Russian capital and that "the main version of his death is suicide. The man suffered from cancer."

quote:

The outlet said that scattered papers, some handwritten, were found on the floor of his residence in which Rogachev blamed his doctor for a botched operation, having undergone surgery in 2018. The Telegram channel also said that his body was found by a driver of the former deputy director of Russia's foreign intelligence service (SVR).

quote:

Rogachev was the latest high-profile figure among Russia's elite to die in unexplained circumstances since the start of Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with those working for the country's second-biggest oil firm, Lukoil, particularly affected.

Lukoil executive Ravil Maganov, 67, fell from a window of Moscow's Central Clinical Hospital in September 2022 in what Russian state media reported was a suicide. No suicide note was left and no CCTV footage of the section of the building where he fell was available.

A list here of some fairly recent "Epstein-cides".

quote:

Vladimir Nekrasov
Position: Chair of Lukoil's board of directors, first Vice President
Death: Allegedly died of acute heart failure in October 2023 at age 66.

Alexander Subbotin
Position: Former Lukoil executive
Death: Ingested toad venom as a hangover cure during a shamanic ritual in May 2022—died from cardiac arrest at age 43.

Sergei Protosenya
Position: Former senior manager at Novatek
Death: Found dead in Spain just days after Avayev's murder-suicide with his wife and daughter in April 2022. Authorities claim that this, too, was a murder-suicide.

Leonid Shulman
Position: Gazprom Invest executive
Death: Found dead in January 2022 near St. Petersburg with apparent self-inflicted injuries. Officials claim suicide was to blame.

Alexander Tyulyakov
Position: Gazprom executive
Death: Found hanged in his home a day after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. A suicide note was found referencing a pain in his broken leg.

Vladislav Avayev
Position: Former Gazprombank vice president
Death: In April 2022, found dead at age 51 alongside his wife and 13-year-old daughter in Moscow in what was ruled a murder-suicide—much like the Sergei Protosenya case.

Robertus Vitaly Vladimirovich
Position: Vice President, Lukoil
Death: March 13, 2024, an apparent suicide by hanging at age 54 after complaining of headache.

Ravil Maganov
Position: Lukoil Chairman & Nekrasov's predecessor
Death: Fell from a hospital window in September 2022—oficially ruled as a suicide. His company had recently called for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Mikhail Watford
Position: Various. Ukrainian born former Ulta Petroleum President and CEO, owned several large oil refineries in Ukraine.
Death: Found dead at age 66 in his UK mansion in March 2022, hanged in his garage. Rumors suggested that Watford had been concerned for years that he had been on Vladimir Putin's hit list.

Igor Shkurko
Position: First Deputy General Director/Chief Engineer of energy company Yakutskenergo
Death: Found in cell at a Yakutsk detention center at age 49—no details given.

This reminds me of the original Hawaii Five-O series - they loved window tosses.

I had a headache yesterday - thought about killing myself, then realized we had some Advil. That was almost a big mistake.

It seems like a lot of high profile executives have gone sky diving in Russia in the past few years.

To hell with that. If I decide I want to take the shortcut to the exit, I'm taking about 100 sleeping pills or something and not throwing myself toward the cement.
