Work trip with my college age daughter (no pics).

Landing in IST about 4 pm. Leaving about 2 am. So need to be back to the airport by midnight.

Restaurants? Tourist spots? Any ideas would be appreciated.

I wouldn’t worry about eating I would try and get to the old town and hit two sites. Topkapi palace was my favorite.

I would try to find a nice Turkish restaurant near the Bosphorus. You will see a lot of Istanbul on the ride there and back. A short dinner cruise on the Bosphorus would be a great way to see a lot too.

The Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, cistern, Topkapi, and the bazaar are all next to each other. Just head down there and get after it.

There's a few hundred year old Turkish bath house around there too

Since he lands at 4pm and can't get to Sultanahmet Square until after 5:00, Topkapi will be closed.

Blue Mosque closes at 6:00
Cistern closes at 7:00
Bazaar closes at 7:00
Hagia Sophia closes at 7:30

Realistically, there might be time to do the Blue Mosque, Cistern, and Hagia Sophia, since all three are so close together. With the limited time, I'd skip the Bazaar.

The landing time concerned me just like the last two posters. If either of you are Star Alliance gold or in Biz, the two story Turkish lounge is a culinary experience. Get in there to fill in time, leave stuffed like manti. They have golf simulators, a movie theater, tons of food, etc.

I didn't even look at his landing time.

The buses from the planes are a big pita too. I flew business class transferring in IST in 2021 and it still took forever

Old airport was certainly closer.

Just did this last month on a flight from Ord-Ist. Landed around the same time. Traffic was terrible but we got dropped off near the Basillica Cistern. Visited it and was too late to visit The Hagia Sophia. Grabbed a Turkish dinner and then went and had a couple drinks on the Bosphorus before heading back to the airport. I would definitely leave the airport if you only get to walk around near the mosque’s and cistern

You can easily do these three and get dinner on the bosphorus. 10 years ago Turkish Airlines was running dirt cheap fares with long layovers and a lot of people were doing this.

Prices to my destination average $1600. These tickets are $1000 with the 10 hour layover. And I don't have to get a hotel room. Seems like a good deal all the way around

Unfortunately closes at 5 pm. So we will miss that. Basically have from 5-11pm to hit as many cool sites as possible, and get dinner before bouncing back to the airport

That was the problem I ran into and why I went to the Cistern. Get the skip the line pass and check it out. Then go hang out and have some Turkish dinner and drinks somewhere. Then hit up a drink on the Bosporus before heading to the airport.

Istanbul is one of those destinations that have been in the tourist business for 1000+ years. On a layer you really need a guide to keep you focused and on time. If you like it, return.

Even though you'll be too late for many attractions, dinner is served late and the city is pretty much open all night.

That's awesome. Great business idea for a reasonable price to help people out.

No Colors, have you taken this trip? I will be in Istanbul for 3 days in March and would like an update.

Anyone else been in Istanbul in the last 6 months or so?
