Anybody else's as frustrating as mine is?

Got my handicap down to a 2.4 last year (lowest it's been in 10 years due to multiple back surgeries) and things were looking up this year and was hoping to have my first round in the red in years and was getting close until... this past month and a half where I just can't piece a round together. Handicap jumped to a 4 now and I have had 5 rounds in a row in the 80's after not going into the 80's for quite a while.

Last round I had 4 birdies and shot 81 +6 heading into the par 5 #16. Bomb a drive. Hit a hybrid that I thought was dead on Ended up rolling off the left into a bunker. Thin it and it rolls into the back bunker. Hit what I thought was a perfect 2nd bunker shot but it doesn't check enough and rolls past and nestles on the fringe/1st cut line. Chip 5 feet past and leave a 5ft downhill swinger and of course miss it. Four double bogeys.

Time to maybe pretend it's the arrow and not the Indian and get a new putter.

Anybody else need to vent?

Somewhere between Scottie Scheffler and Charles Barkley. It pretty much changes on every shot.

Started really playing late in 2020. Took lessons over those years with some guys that weren't the best for me it turns out. Started going to a new guy about a year ago and would do about a session a month. When I started 4 years ago I was awful. Didn't know a damn thing about how to swing. Even after learning basics I was having a ton of trouble getting away from a baseball swing and into a golf swing. It wasn't until I went to the new coach that he understood and helped me start the turn the corner

Anyway I still suck but I am definitely finally seeing significant improvement. In the last 3 months I have lowered my HC 2 strokes down to 17.8 and have broken 90 the last 2 rounds.

If I could take away 2-4 swings every round, I would shoot at or under par every round. Its so damn frustrating to be so close.

The problem is, those bad swing turn into doubles in a hurry. Im hitting my irons better than I have in my entire life. I just need to hit more fairways. The problem is, when Im hitting my driver well, its amazing.

You just described my game.
I can hit a finesse flop shot to a shortsided pin then blade a 56 10’ off the back from 10’ off a wide open green. If my driver isn’t working, I’m just there to finish. If I hit fairways I can score.

L shoulder surgery in early may, so, as bad as it's ever been after maybe my first 3 years.

That stinks because getting lessons right off the bat is normally the best thing to do if you don't mind spending the money. But there are also some bad instructors out there too. There's a guy here that gives lessons at a local course and he 100% is not qualified to be giving lessons, unless you count watching YouTube videos as training for an instructor good enough.

That's awesome man. Lowering your handicap 2 strokes per year is an accomplishment, much less in just 3 months.

We always said we were going to get a beer one day, maybe we can do that on the course

2-3 weeks ago from 75-80 I could guarantee it inside 10 feet. 52 or 50 would be a good birdie chance.

Now I’m counting anything on the green as a win. If I don’t chunk it it’s thin, if I hit I solid it’s liable to be a dead pull.

Fortunately my putting is better, so I’m still 70-78 most rounds.

Give me 30-74 or 100-250 over anything 75-99. I hate that shot so much right now.

It's pretty crazy that you can go from loving a shot to despising one in just a one club difference. Golf is something else.

Yeah the first guy wasn't anyone I would recommend at all. The second guy was way better but it was old school on the range with limited video. Now there is track man and immediate video and swing stats. I learn so much better that way

Better than it's been in the last 4 years or so. Finally got my grip better and feeling comfortable. Problem now is distance and distance control. I'm bombing some shots now that I feel more fluid and comfy. My distances are anywhere from 15-20 yards further than I'm used to with my irons/wedges.

Driver has completely flipped my game now that I'm not duck hooking every other drive.

With all of that said, my last 3 rounds are 94,90,92

Putting is normally my strong point but it's not great at the moment. 3 putted on my 90 round on 18.

I'm hoping to improve my consistency and dial in distances to be somewhere around 85-90 on most rounds. I think that's a good mix of being able to play a fun round but feel like I can get after it a little bit.

I'll never probably break 80 and I'm ok with it. All that I've changed is my grip and it's changed the enjoyment of my rounds.

ETA: I know GolfTec gets some hate but I did a video lesson and being able to visual how my grip changed my body positioning and overall swing was life changing. It just takes a ton of practice and sticking with i, even when it's uncomfortable.

Yeah I too am struggling with distance control within 100 yards. Just need to go hit buckets of 40-90 yard shots

Wish I had time to play more, only about half the rounds I had the last two seasons due to child being born. I’ve come full circle on declaring outright war against double bogeys. Just can’t seem to put together back to back decent 9’s last couple times out.

Hate to see this for everyone, but my game has gotten bad also. Have thought of maybe pickleball, but the time on the course although infuriating can also some how be relaxing.

Thinking of buying a skytrac setup just so I can be frustrated at home late at night also.

Was told by a pro once to take 2 weeks off then sell my clubs. Maybe should have listened all those years ago.

Was nice in May, went to Oakbourne and started hooking the shite out of everything . Then developed the chipping shanks. We from upper 70s to 90s quickly. Seeing improvement, playing tomorrow

Hurricane did a lot of damage here in Augusta. Glad to be playing 9 holes under modified conditions. It may take months to get things back to normal.

In the meantime, it’s still good to get outside.

I think we open the back 9 next week, but I assume they will need to close the front while we play back there for several days.

One word, sucks…

Driver: sucks
Woods: sucks
Irons: sucks
Wedges: sucks
Putting: sucks

Shirt, shorts, shoes, socks, way above average, game overall sucks…
