Don't buy one. Instead clean it, buy a new case and change the wallpaper. Works every time for me.

I replaced my iPhone 12 for a new iPhone 16 and pay $2.76 more a month than I previously did

Why wouldn’t I do this?

Not an expert but upgrading from a 12 to 16 is worth every penny. I have a 14.

His point is that we’re all running the same os that the 16 is, and that’s what you see and use.

Why wouldn’t you do it? You likely just signed up for another 2 year contract on a well over priced plan, and remove your ability to move your lines anywhere else to save on service costs. That’s what ALL the post paid carriers “give” you “free” phones.

My battery was fricked and the processor was extremely slow. Touch responses were delayed

Classic signs of an old battery. I dont blame anyone for getting new free/cheap phones when they know they are not going to change providers but you can get a new battery for practically any iphone at the apple store for between $70 and $100. The phone will be practically brand new after the battery replacement.

What is the "rule of thumb" for when to replace your battery? My max capacity is now down to 86%.

Don't plan on leaving Verizon any time soon, but biggest deterrent to upgrade is I am grandfathered into a free Disney+/ESPN+/Hulu plan

When you have battery issues like random drops in charge. For example if your phone regularly drops from 45% to 30% instead of gradual discharge, that is a sign of a bad battery and it should be replaced if you are keeping the phone.

Otherwise, the general recommendation is to replace when battery health drops below 80%.

Longer battery life, faster processor, action button, new camera button, better camera. And ability to run new AI software coming in iOS18. Plenty of reasons to upgrade if you're ready.

When technological improvements were happening more rapidly, generational upgrades were arguably noticeable. Now that phone tech has progressed to the point it has, it usually doesn't make good financial sense to upgrade until several iterations have passed.

If you're rocking a flagship level phone from 2018+, then you don't "need" to upgrade. If you simply want a new phone, then that's fine. It's your money. Just don't expect drastic quality of life improvements.

While I am in the boat of keeping your device as shite is very expensive, and honestly I hate throwing yet another thing away, it's good to replace every few years. That's coming from someone with a 6 year old phone that still works good, but is in desperate need of a replacement.

In the ongoing world of everything moving to the internet and an app on your phone, we all need to be more conscious of data security. My current phone now does not get any security updates, or OS updates for that matter. This will make it more susceptible to getting hacked. Just keep that in mind. Good to swap over every 4 years or so, or check your device's update schedule.

Speak for yourself. I have a 13 that barely keeps a charge anymore and is slow as crap. I pay 12 bucks a month and they will give me $1000 at AT&T for a 16 promax that will reduce my monthly payments by seven dollars

Lowered it to $700 last week. $1000 promotion ended on October 10 for 13 and older. Unless it’s a 13 Pro, may still get $1000 for that

Logged into my account as I have 13 pro max and 1 payment left, I pay the single payment left and I get the 1,000 in bill credits to trade it in. My payment was 5.50 a month, but it will take a few weeks to deliver.

Same. Just ordered my 16 pro max

I use it for work daily all day and when running Salesforce and other apps, a difference of 3 years of chips and graphics make a world of difference.

And did I mention it’s $7 less a month?

I have a base model 13, last installment was due last week so I was waiting on that to go through. Once I did I got on the website to upgrade and the promotion had ended and it dropped from $1000 to $700

Thinking about just getting the base model 15 or 16 and selling my 13 on Swappa. I haven’t missed any features that I can think of. Plus it’s a little bit lighter
