My son is looking to buy a lab puppy in December/January. Any reputable sources would be appreciated. Lives in the greater New Orleans area.

I’m know multiple people who have labs from huntfield kennels and love them. I’ve been around one at a sand bar and he was the chillest lab I’ve ever seen. He was literally standing on his hind legs and front legs floating with us in 3ft of water like he was a human. I asked the guy how old he was and if he calmed down with age, said he’s been chill since he brought him home.

Our female is from Huntfield and I second everything stated. I thought our previous lab was chill, but this one is even more laid back.

I got a girl puppy from Huntfield last year. She is hands down the easiest lab I’ve ever dealt with. She can be wild like a puppy normally is but pretty chill most of the time and has been great with the kids. It does not take much to get her to obey either, and she only wants to do right by me.

The only thing that is different from other labs I’ve had is 1) she was hesitant to get in the pond, but after some coaxing and confidence she now swims great; and 2) now that she’s full grown, she’s not a food nut like my previous labs. I thought something was wrong with her for the longest time but she just doesn’t have to eat and isn’t crazy if she hasn’t.

She’s right at 50 lbs and supremely athletic. Overall 10/10

I got my lab from Huntsfield about 14 years ago, he died last year. One of the hardest things I ever had to do was put down my best dog ever, best friend as well.

Chill is the best word to describe him as well. House broken in a week, never chewed up anything. Was a good bird dog, and even better family dog. He was my buddy, and as loyal and gentle as they come. When it was time to hunt he was locked in and relentless.

When I get another one I am getting another one from them.

Second for Clay. Great dogs and great people. And they just posted a litter.

Also contact Bergeron labs around New Roads. They are on Facebook.

I talked to Clay last night. Pretty sure he’s got Christmas pups coming.

OP, Clay’s pups will have the personality you want. They’ll be smart ,too. Exactly what you want in a companion and he’ll guarantee it. The dogs are bred right.

For you guys that have a dog from Huntfield, are they strictly house dogs or do they hunt? Looking into getting one to do both, but more for blood trailing/shed hunting than anything waterfowl related. Seems they have the temperament I want but looking to get real world experiences y'all have had with them with the family and in the field.

Our Huntfield lab is both a duck dog and a family dog. She has the drive to turn it on when retrieving and off when around the house. Super easy to train and not the super high drive level that's hard to control I've seen with other puppies. The smartest dogs I have ever owned. I like the size of the British labs for in the house (~55 pounds), sure is easier than a 100-pound dog in your house. If still on the fence, go visit their kennel.

Appreciate that. What do you look for when trying to pick a puppy? Specifically regarding the parents when there are a few litters to pick from. I’m new to it all so forgive my ignorance.

Mine is the same. High drive to hunt and can go forever, but once in the house she chills out quick

Mine is not a huntfield, but he is a British Lab. Best dog I've ever owned. Was a great hunter when we hunted and the best house dog. He's 13 now and as he's always done, he stays by my wife protecting her.

Will be heading to Huntfield in a few weeks to pick up our new puppy. Been looking forward to it for a while now. Appreciate the info from this thread, basically what made my decision to go with a British Lab. Guess we’ll find out what all the hype is about soon enough.
