BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has cited famed gator hunter Troy Landry following an undercover sting, records show.
Landry, the 64-year-old star of the show. “Swamp People,” was charged with two counts of “Failing to Tag An Alligator Upon Taking,” according to a Wildlife and Fisheries (LDFW) incident report.
LDWF agents say they got a tip that certain people were hunting alligators in Lake Palourde, located in St. Mary Parish, despite not having permission to hunt on that property.
Last month, the two agents say they staked out the area for six hours until they spotted Landry and two other people, including “an unidentified cameraman,” arrive in the area by boat.
In their incident report, the agents said they later determined Landry did indeed have permission to hunt on the property. However, he allegedly did not have the proper alligator tags to hunt in that area.

I just realized they were still making episodes. That's a hell of a run. I mean you saw everything you were ever going to see in the first episode, and they've made 15 seasons so far out of it.

He probably had the tags, but just not in the boat. He had permission and was running lines in the middle of the day. At least he's smart enough to not have a comment when they shoved a camera in his face.

This kind of stuff is why the deer population is out of control. We need MORE government oversight into this. /s
Pretty soon you’ll have to get a license to have a garden and buy tags for each tomato you grow.

What gets me is there was another show called Dirty Money (I think). There were alligator hunters on it, but their hunting was nothing like Swamp People. They'd just ease the gator up and pop it, no fight, no struggle, no yelling. That's probably closer to reality, but that show only lasted a couple of seasons, despite being more interesting overall.
ETA: The show was Filthy Riches.

isn't the alligator population out of control ?
WTF would they waste time chasing Troy around
google: Louisiana's alligator population has exploded over the past 50 years from fewer than 100,000 to more than 3 million today. Of those, about 2 million are wild with another 1 million farmed. That's nearly three times the population of Florida, the state with the second most number of

You’re talking about the same state agency that’s only giving out 10 bear tags for a statewide season.

Stupid there’s a need to tags alligators in a state with 3 million alligators (allegedly, probably more). It’s not like hunting alligators is very common in Louisiana anyways. It’s not something everyone is running out and doing like they’re fishing for sac a lait. Green jeans gotta feel important.

I'll be glad to come shoot 6 deer on your property to thin out the herd for you

Eh I mean to be fair they said they were there for someone trespassing, when found they searched him and found no tags.
Its not like they went looking to bust Landry. I don't really see the issue here with what happened.
Even Landry if he had the tags, would likely admit he was caught being stupid. Fine him and move on. This is only news due to him being a celebrity.

fricken green jeans.......do you think they felt accomplished after that 6 hour "stake out" to catch someone who didn't have authorization to hunt an area only to find out that the hunter DID in fact have authorization.

I’m not talking about the King of Pierre Parrr getting popped. Just the need to do it in general.
