Wow! Who new moving containers could pay so much but then again i never thought flipping burgers would pay 20 and hour. Can you say inflation thru the roof and only getting worse. Why bother with college.

So dock workers are so essential to the economy that if they don’t work it will shut down the US but not essential enough to deserve a large pay increase?

I didn't see the US shutting down. I know dock workers are against email, but were they against email too? the internet?

at least the burger flippers pay was based on demand and free markets. The port workers are just a little tribe that uses political levers to artificially push their wages up way above the average forklift driver.

So y’all know how this works?

The more they pay the workers…the more the companies charge for services…the more all of the goods will cost.

This is how and why prices for everyday items go up.

And people think that the companies just won’t make as much money…WRONG.

That’s not how supply and demand works, buddy. They are only “essential” because they are basically a monopoly that controls all ports of entry for goods and services.

Using your logic, if a utility company with monopoly power decided to shut off services to an entire region because they were denied the ability to increase prices, they’d be doing the right thing because they are “essential”

With the advancement of Machine Learning (A.I.) + Automation, I wouldn't give an employer one single reason to advance any thoughts into making my job irrelevant, but that hasn't stopped fast food workers and longshoremen.

Unions are no longer organized labor. They are now organized crime.
All Unions should be obolished.

You do realize the pay increase is. In line with standard wage increases right?

They haven’t had a pay increase since before COVID and this one is spread out over 6 years

Why is this the default response when a group gets a pay raise?

You want to be mad at a group? Look at C Suite that get paid 200X the average worker at the company.

And yet your anger is directed at the blue collar worker and not the C Suite of the company lol

They make horrible decisions. Their current crisis will lead to automation sooner, not later.

I don't get the hate for these guys.

Forklift and dock work isn't a high skill job, but it's not something you want to leave to anyone willing to operate the machine.

I've worked with some teenager/early 20s forklift operators and it's kind of dangerous to be around someone who treats the lift like a toy in a warehouse, let alone an actual dock where precision is necessary.

They are as essential as a mobster showing up to the florist to take an envelope of cash while pointing a gun at the clerk.

They were offered a massive raise and instead decided to strike.

I doubt theyre smart enough to understand if they won or lost.
