Since they will be sharing the stadium with their AAA team how will scheduling work? I realize the A's will take precedence but with the AAA and MLB schedule is it possible to always have one of the teams on the road?

The River Cats are the Giants AAA team.

The Rivercats will play on days that the A's don't play

I would think the AAA team would be moving to a new market if the A’s are coming in

Sacramento wouldn't like that considering the A's are only there for 2-3 years.

Heard they were going to move to BR and use Pete Goldsby field for the season, problem solved.

They just alternate home and away series. It's easily doable. We have two single A teams here in Lexington and they manage to share the same ballpark just fine without schedule conflict.

Ahh, didn't realize the Rivercats belonged to the Giants. Just assumed since the A's were going there that there was an affiliation. Thank you for the info everyone.

Maybe something has changed since then, but back in July it was reported that the A's are going to have to build their schedule around the River Cats', not the other way around (due to the way that Pacific Coast League teams do scheduling in order to cut down on travel).

quote:

Because the A’s will be co-tenants at Sutter Health Park, they not only will use the same field as the River Cats — the top farm team of the San Francisco Giants — but will need to adhere to Pacific Coast League scheduling to fit in their 81 home games.

It’s an extremely challenging logistical ordeal because MLB and PCL schedules aren’t molded in the same format…

Generally, the River Cats play one team per week in a six-game series with Monday set aside as a travel day. One week at home, the next on the road. The A’s need to mirror that and play in Sacramento when the River Cats are on the road and vice versa…

In other words, the 29 other teams are catering to the A’s because of owner John Fisher’s preference to leave the Coliseum, where scheduling would have been routine, for a temporary home in Sacramento, where the scheduling is complex, the heat is overwhelming and the facilities in need of major upgrades.

I suppose the grass won't hold up with 2 teams playing there. So a new turf field will have to be installed. Which will make the playing conditions hotter than it already is.

The River Cats were the A’s Triple-A affiliate from 2000-2014.

2025 Schedule was released back in July. Each team alternates weeks for home and road games. One week the A's are home and River Cats are on the road. Following week they swap, A's on the road and River Cats home.

The problem is that MiLB now plays weekly six game series.

I was there the last week of August. If the heat we dealt with then is normal, it's going to be an issue.

You'd be surprised. I have a buddy that lives in Folsom, CA (20 minutes outside of Sacramento) and it gets a lot hotter there than much of the rest of Northern California. Sacramento is surrounded by mountains, but is itself a in a valley (the Sacramento Valley to be exact). It cools down a lot at night, but the days can get excessively hot. Today the high was 101, peaking around 5 p.m. The high daily temperature is expected to be around 100 degrees everyday for the next week. If it's still that hot during the first week of October imagine what July/August can be like.
