The light in my 18 camry is on and won't go away..

I have perfect 36 lbs of air pressure and the light won't go out

I think it knows my mileage and wants my tire changed..

Not sure how it’s a scam. It tells you tire pressure and they only last for so long. It you don’t want to change them, just ignore the light.

It probably is telling you that your tire pressure sensor is out and cannot get a reading

Could it be a battery in one of the monitors is getting weak?

The sensors can go bad, like anything on a vehicle

But yeah, a scam is the most likely reason

There are sensors on your rims that communicate to your car. When the batteries die in them that is the light that will not go away until you purchase new sensors and relearn the new sensors.

I think you shouldn’t “think” so much.

Sensor needs to be reset or replaced. Any tire place can do it

ChatGPT:

It’s unlikely that your Toyota Camry’s tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is tied to your mileage in a way that would trigger a warning light for tire replacement. Typically, if the light is on despite perfect tire pressure, there are a few potential causes:

1. TPMS Sensor Issues: One of the TPMS sensors in your tires may be malfunctioning or its battery may be dying. Even with proper air pressure, the system could be detecting an issue with a sensor.
2. Spare Tire: If your Camry has a full-sized spare with a sensor, the light could be triggered by low pressure in the spare tire.
3. TPMS Reset: Sometimes, the TPMS just needs to be reset manually after adjusting tire pressure. In your car, this is typically done by holding the TPMS reset button, often located under the dashboard.
4. Tire Rotation: If you’ve recently rotated your tires, the system may need recalibration.

You can try resetting the TPMS by following your car manual’s instructions or visit a shop to check for sensor issues. If you’re due for a tire change due to wear and mileage, a tire inspection wouldn’t hurt, but the warning light wouldn’t be triggered solely based on that.

It’s probably a bad TPMS sensor

wouldn't call them a scam but they're known to be wildly inaccurate with a high failure rate but they come standard on many vehicles. All that in mind plus the relatively high cost per sensor, ignore them and in fact I pulled the dash on my wife's truck and removed the bulb for that idiot light

They're a pain in the arse. My light keeps coming on intermittently. I can check pressure and add a little air, but it stays on until it just randomly goes off days later. I've heard it can be the spare, but it has always been good when I've checked it.

The light probably blinks 3 or 4 times when you first crank the car and then stays on. .That means the battery is dead in 1 or more of the sensors There would be no blinking first if the sensor was working and just sensing low pressure.

What exactly is the scams angle? Are they trying to get an extra $0.50 out of people at the machines? That's a pretty elaborate plan for half a dollar.

That's because your sensor is broken.

Neat fact... The TPMS in my Volvo works completely differently...

quote:

The tire pressure monitoring system measures differences in rotation speed between the different wheels via the ABS system in order to be able to determine whether they have the correct tire pressure. If the tire pressure is too low, the tire's diameter is changed and, as a result, so is its rotation speed.

Did you ever think the sensor was bad?

Side Note: Nitrogen in your tires is a scam.
