Anyone ever get pulled over for not having one? Our last four cars don’t have one. Got pulled over last night for it.

Texas driver? You absolutely need the matching front and back plates.

That isn't optional in the states where required, hence the "required" word.

Louisiana doesn't require one,so "no."

I know you are supposed to have a front plate in Texas but many luxury or exotic car owners don't put them on. It ruins the look of the front end. Also the fine is minimal. I think you need to catch a cop on a bad day to get this ticket.

I lived in Texas for several years and never put my front plates on. Never got pulled over.

state of residence would be helpful here

Texas police prefer pulling over out of state vehicles because it's free money and the drivers won't come to court to fight the ticket. Also, I-10 through Texas is a massive drug mule system. They focus on that more than TX drivers missing a front plate.

Sorry, yes Texas. Also, they were higher end cars

I always thought the front license plate thing was sort of an oddball deal amongst states - as Texas was the only one I ever really noticed.
But I saw a graphic recently on this, showing nearly half of the states have it.
It seems mostly pointless.

Isn’t that the law in Texas?

Got pulled over once in Colorado for not having one. I was in the middle of swapping the bumper in my Jeep and hadn't transferred the front plate yet.

Got pulled over in Texas and had no clue I needed a front plate. Just gave me a warning since I was a new resident.
I was confused because I didn’t think I received 2 of them in the mail. Come to find out they were just stuck together.

I got pulled over one time in Tyler, Tx for speeding. He checked for my front license plate, which I do not have. He asked if I had ever been told that I needed, to which I replied no, and he said good answer. He gave me a warning and sent me on my way.
I spoke with one of my neighbors who is a retired Dallas pd about the front license plate. He said it’s just another reason they can pull you over, but other than that not really anything.

It's for them to match your license plate to the speed you are going for that ticket

Yes and had to add a bracket on both cars to be lawful

I had the EXACT same experience when i moved here. Didn't even realize I had received 2 plates. I did however get a ticket, even though I tried to explain I had no idea. HPD was a little salty that night I guess.

I used to have a Porsche 911. There is literally no place on that car for a front plate. Got pulled over several times. Never got a ticket tho, but I was told to keep it on my front dash. That never happened either.

Front plates are idiotic. If they're so critical to motor vehicle safe operation, why don't the other 20+ states require them?

WTF you talking about? Was your 911 a toy model maybe?
All of mine had a place. Here for shits and giggles is my 911 Turbo sporting a front plate:
