I've dabbled in trying some different bourbons over the years. I love trying out new bourbons and beers.
I wanted to get some rec's from you guys that I can compile a list for when I go shopping, instead of rolling dice on something I've not had or seen before.
I've plowed thru some of the Bourbon/whiskey thread and am always amazed at the stuff I have never even heard of.
Also, do you guys decant on any of your good stuff? I've never bothered.
Thanks guys.

I'd think you'd get many answers with many different price points. Personally, I've narrowed down to 3; 1) Buffalo Trace/Bulleit for an Old Fashioned 2) Eagle Rare/Bulleit 10yr for sippin' 3) Blanton's/EH Taylor for special occasions

You like that 90 proof stuff!

Give me the 110-125 barrel proof for sipping.

I want to try to find a few here in Fort Worth.
-EH Taylor
-Blanton's Gold
-Weller 12

Just finished Barrell Armida (good sweet notes). I enjoyed this one.
Currently have Elijah Craig Barrell proof. When I bought this, there was a Remus barrel proof (I think a store pick) sitting next to it. Wish I would've picked that up after seeing "SingleMalt" with a bottle on the whiskey sticky.

Here are some things you can easily find that I have found I really like.
Blue Note Juke Joint
Redwood Empire Pipedream
Still Austin Musician
Old Ezra 7

Two non-bourbons that deserve mention:
Michter's American(previously used barrels, so can't be bourbon)
JT Meleck (Any of them)

Will Cover, I've always passed up the Four Roses Single Barrel. I'll give it a whirl.
EH Taylors are definitely on my list.
Elijah Craig Toasted, I haven't tried. I have a barrel proof Elijah Craig now, it's ok. Like the Barrell Armida and Bib & Tucker I just got this weekend, better. But the Toasted sounds interesting. I'll keep my eye out for that. Usually can find any Elijah Craig around Fort Worth. Thanks.

Thanks AlxTgr. Blue Note and Old Ezra 7 I have added to the list. I've seen those suggested before.

EH Taylor, Eagle Rare,Wellers, Blantons is all over-hyped, over-priced average bourbon that is near impossible to find in DFW. You can find just as good or better for much less $$.

Russell 10 Year which is only about $40
Russell Single Barrel Select is going to be a higher proof and more difficult to find but is really good.
Blue Note Cross Roads is about $40
Wild Turkey 101 for about $25 is fantastic
Wild Turkey Rare Breed is higher proof and about $50
Penelope Architect is one of my favorites but I do love french oak (see Blue Note Cross Roads)
Still Austin Cask Strength (they have several other iterations but cask strength is my goto)

I like Makers 46 for a solid bourbon under $60.

It doesn’t seem to get a lot of talk on this board for some reason.

Sadly, it won’t be long before this one pops up on everyone’s radar and goes from $55/bottle to $95

Thanks Zappa, haven't had any Russells. I can find that here if DFW easily. I'll give it a try.

I've always passed on Wild Turkey stuff in looking for different stuff. The same with Old Forrester. You see these everywhere and so I just never bothered to try.
But last month I picked up an Old Forrester for mixing, and man it is actually not bad to sip. The flavor was so much better than other stuff I've used to mix drinks.
So I will give the Wild Turkey Rare Breed a try.

Paul Allen,
I'll put 46 on my list. I've had plenty of MM over the years, but it's been for mixing. I've not ventured into their specialties..

Leblanc,
I've seen Bakers 7 recommended before. Now is there a Baker's 13? For some reason it seems I've heard that before.

So looking at these recs there are some common trends that I'll have to try out.
-Blue Note
-Rare Breed
-Still Austin
-EH Taylor

I feel like I've had a Penelope before. I've tried Jeffersons boat Bourbon. Doesn't really stick in my memory. I had Basil & Hayden sherry cask or cabernet finish barrels. Didn't care for.

Pinhook anybody?
Remus?
I've seen these in my local store.

The 46 and Cask Strength are night and day better than the regular MM. They're both excellent for the price point imo.

The same with Old Forrester

As someone who is just getting into bourbon, Old Forrester Statesman has been one of my favorite so far and relatively easy to find. I also like the Old Forrester 1910 a lot. If you can get a Weller green for ~$30ish easily the best option but it is a hassle to find.
