Lots of these gentrified places are pricing out old residents who can’t afford the increased property tax bill and are priced out of their homes.

OT is bunch of old men but also believe in capitalism. Where do you stand?

Millennials and Gen Z should have spent more time building equity instead of buying avocado toast and coffee

Property taxes are evil. At most, you should be taxed based on what you actually paid.

So someone who bought their home for 15k should pay 1% of that value (est)?

Gentrification is just another boogie man people use as an excuse or example of the man keeping them down instead of taking responsibility for their own life choices.

No, we shouldn't have to pay tax on our property at all!

This is why Louisiana is the greatest place of all. We do get to have our cake and eat it to. The property tax locks at a certain age. Also, my in-laws, who's taxes are locked, are selling a house for 379 that they built for 125. They believe in their mind the house is worth 379, but what would they say to the assessor if you believe the house is worth 379 then so do we. Taxes are going up.

END RANT

I'm not old, but this quote is a perfect example why your threads are so terrible. Why include this statement?

Yes, it’s ridiculous that you can pay off your house, yet 5 years down the road you can’t afford the rising taxes. It’s a broken system.

Question is: if a bunch of high salaried people move to your town, is it your job to keep up or pack your bags?

Depends. If I’m 80 or sick, or my wife wants to stay home with the kids, I guess I pack my bags.

I'm not sure what I hate more: property taxes or income taxes. Property taxes make you a serf to the state. Income taxes make you a slave to the state. Both are reprehensible. It's amazing we've allowed this to happen.
