How long would you be comfortable storing diesel fuel?

I'm thinking about getting a diesel storage tank for the farm.
I'm going to be moving out there and expected burn would be about 15 gallons a week on average.
I've only called one company and minimum delivery is 300 gallons.
I wasn't expecting the minimum to be so high. I had about half of that in my mind. That's only about 6 months at expected burn rate. I don't think that's a problem. What if I end up burning less than expected? Would you feel comfortable with treated diesel that's been sitting a year or so?
Any long term issues with storing diesel in a 500 gallon tank and only filling part of the way? Algae growth, moisture, debris?

I'd have zero problem with diesel that's a year old, not true for gasoline. I've seen old trucks run on used fry oil as long as you're keeping fuel filters changed you're gtg.

Have you thought about calling a second company and seeing if this holds?

No.

I'd think your only concern would be algae growth in the fuel which is treatable.
ETA: Thinking about it a little more, if you have a tank that isn’t full you can get condensation in the tank, which introduces water.
A good filter/separator. would help

Diesel does not go bad.

I treat the diesel in my generator with stabil and never have an issue

My sailboat has a large fuel tank but the 15 hp Diesel engine hardly uses any fuel. Just use it fer 10 minutes at a time going out the marina and back in to the slip. I have had same diesel in it for 8 years. I have added 1/2 a tank once when it was at 1/4 tank. I don’t think it goes bad for a long time.

Treat with biokleen once a year or as needed and it will be fine
Run a regular filter plus a water separtor

Why not just get a transfer tank for your truck? That type of usage is exactly what they are made for. While diesel is plenty shelf stable a tank that big that you’re not gonna turn over frequently is just asking for issues with crud and water.

Diesel is a cut off a tower, gas is a blend of products. Diesel holds up well. Gas, not so much without stabilizers/additives.

I do what you are thinking about at my house. I have a 500 gallon tank which I use for my tractors and diesel lawn mower. My neighbor and I split it and we go trough a tank about every two years. Knocking on wood I haven't had a problem with it yet. I do have a filter and water separator on it but otherwise it holds up well.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll just go with a 500 gallon tank and treat it. Also use a filter and separator.
I could, but having someone deliver is more appealing. I also plan on having a diesel generator, PTO or stand alone. Having access to a larger supply probably isn't a bad idea.

Been researching this a little lately, but with the idea of using a 55gal drum. Other recommendations I’ve seen are to make sure your pump pickup doesn’t go all the way to the bottom of the tank. And have a way to purge out any water that collects at the bottom.

We have had farm diesel well over 5 years old with zero issues. We buy in bulk 5k gal or more when its cheap and treat it.
