My wife and I are taking a trip to Louisville for a week in October. She surprised me with it for my birthday. We are booked for a few distillery tours already. She had all that planned out. Our hotel is within walking distance of Whiskey Row. Any recommendations on things to do outside of the bourbon trail?
Any restaurant recommendations?

Went a few years ago… stayed about 45 mins out on Taylorsville lake.. nice cabins, marina nearby, rented party barge, they had little jonboats…
Went into Lexington…. Seemed like everywhere was “45 mins away”
Visit Churchill Downs- if races are running, definitely go. Had a blast - we went jn a Thursday I believe…$1 beers!
Louisville slugger museum is cool- they make their own whiskey next door.

Churchill Downs even if horses aren’t running.

Louisville Slugger museum if you have any interest at all in baseball. I had low expectations and loved it.

I've never been, but I had a few things on my radar:
See if anything worthwhile will be at The Palace Theater. I know Steve Martin and Martin Short are doing a show there soon.
Go use the lobby bathroom at the Hotel 21c. I hear that there's an interesting one-way mirror.
Eat a Brown Sandwich from the Brown Hotel.
Go to the Speed Art Museum and the Frazier Museum.
There's a glass activity center where you can make things out of... well, glass.
The behind the scene tour at Louisville Slugger Museum and betting a race at Churchill Downs is way up on the top of my list along with the typical burbon trail stuff.

Beware downtown is not exactly a hot spot. It gets kind of quiet in the wrong way after dark. It can be a fun place to visit, don't get me wrong, just don't expect Broad Street or French Quarter on a weds evening.
Also most distilleries close their tap room and tours around 4-6pm. Seems kinda dumb to me as it precludes any kind of real entertainment and fun, but maybe they view it more as a museum/tour than a drinking establishment. Still it's hard to visit if you're there for work and want to see a distillery after meetings.
Don't sleep on the merch stores in some of those distilleries, especially Stitzel Weller. Lotta cool stuff.
As for food, absolutely have to try the Hot Brown sandwich at the Brown Hotel. Its the most famous dish in that city, at their granddaddy old hotel. Across the river in Jeffersonville, the Red Yeti is a dynamite bar food establishment. Their fried chicken is amazing, as is their Hot Brown.
Enjoy your trip.

Take the tour but no live racing for the month of October. Keeneland will be running

Galaxie for tacos and a margarita downtown. Great spot. Gets hopping in the evening too.

If there a week, definitely use a day to go to Keeneland, particularly since Churchill won’t be racing.

If heading to Lexington, visit Claiborne Farm. Has a breeding tour and you can pay your respects to Secretariat.
Food scene is pretty diverse, Jeff Ruby’s for high end steak, I really enjoy Malone’s. If you don’t have it booked yet, definitely get to Makers Mark.
