Needing to replace my older polaris. Looking for suggestions/reviews from both an effective and cost standpoint.

Thanks for any input and suggestions...

Anybody know of a place that works on these things? I have a fairly expensive one that is only about two years old, and it is constantly giving us issues. Will run for a few seconds then stop, etc. Not even sure if it is worth trying to fix.

They work on them. They have several locations.

Some pool places may service certain brands. I had a corded one I inherited doing the same thing but it was still under warranty. The amount of things they changed out was surprising so it may be tough to diagnose. If it is within your budget, it is good to have a back up robot in case one goes down within the warranty period. I am under the impression these have about a 2-3 year useful life.

Polaris Freedom

How long have you had this one? I was looking into it but not sure how long the lithium battery will last. I don't want to spend this kind of money if I have to buy a new battery every few years.

I am definitely in the minority here, but I fricking hate the robot I have (Dolphin S200). Its a pain in the arse to me. I dont have many trees around so leaf litter is minimal. My main debris is dirt, sand, hair, etc. Small stuff, but I hate a dirty pool bottom. I have white plaster. Maybe I'm just dumb, but I havent figured out a way to make it run every day for longer than three days. I have zero desire to take it in and out every day or every few days. It LIVES in my pool. It sucks and is always missing crap for days on end. Lately it loves to get hung up on the main drains and do absolutely nothing. That and the electricity needed means theres always a damn cord dragging across my patio/pool deck.

Im about to replace my booster pump (thats how I ended up with the robot in the first place) and go back to a Polaris 280 pressure side cleaner. That thing kept my pool spotless and easily ran for 1 hour everyday. Every now and then it would need an additional round.

I’ve got the same and love it.

Do t leave it in the pool- take the 5 minutes to take it out, rinse filter, and put up. Throw it in every 4-5 days. Pretty simple. Does a great job, other than the corners. Easy to sweep out though.

6 months so far. If it lasts 4 or 5 years then I'll be happy. It was included with my pool builders package.

I’ve had a dolphin s200 for 5 years. Spends a lot of time in the water. Not many trees but it works awesome. Only draw back is the cord. In 4 years I’ve put new tracks on it and a return flap, that’s it. It has plenty hours on it and still doing a great job. It does get hung on drain from time to time as well.

Dolphin?

I loved ours BUT only got about 3 years out of it. And they h charge out the arse for what should be a pretty basic motor replacement.

Check YouTube and see if there are DIY fix-it videos for your model. Something as simple as hair wrapped around the impeller shaft can cause them to not run. Mine runs a diagnostic at startup and if anything fails, it shuts down.
