I have made pastalaya a million times and always used either penne or spaghetti noodles. Looking to change it up this time. What's your favorite?

Fettuccini
Bowtie
Penne
Rotini

I think I ate it growing up with spaghetti so much that I don't personally make it with that even though it's close to Fettuccini. With that said, I advise everyone to try Fettuccini.

Edit: Also nb4 someone says long grain

I like penne and rotini, bowtie is fine as well. Long noodles aren't the best imo.

Thin spaghetti makes the best pastalaya hands down.

Penne...when the juice and small chunks of meat go into that beautiful hollow noodle

Yes.

I use rotini, penne or bowtie most of the time. Have not tried fettuccini as suggested - will try that next time.

I prefer rotini but my wife prefers bow tie… so bow tie it is

Edited to add that spaghetti just seems wrong in pastalaya. Not sure why.

Penne or bow tie for me

You’re about to get the “just use rice” comments soon

Try it. You wouldnt be disappointed. Best overall texture. Provides for best juiciness. Best forkability. All the other cutesy pasta shape options are played out son.

I'd suggest you read the thread...

Rotini is my favorite with Penne a close second. When I see a pastalaya with spaghetti noodles I immediately think the cook is probably still learning how to cook as they obviously don't have the sense to tell which pasta would lend itself better for the dish. And I move on.

I say this every time this topic comes up: I use long macaroni. I haven't made it in a while, but I think I need to soon.

The wife and kid have been loving the egg noodles, I've used that the last couple of times, but my favorite is just regular noodles.
