Brian Kelly is arguably the worst head coach in college football at preparing his team for the season.

You can bank on consecutive losses to Clemson in 2025/2026. Unless Brian Kelly is fired before then.

Or just win the games you're scheduled. USC didn't get a cupcake to open week 1. If they lose, the same excuse gets used by them.

Shut up.

NO. I love playing a marquee game week 1. It's like we want to be good, but want to microwave it. We just need to be better than our opponents week 1. Keep the games as is.

You're still gonna get week 1 injuries. You still gonna have bonehead mistakes, and burn stupid timeouts. Why waste that on a team you know you can beat.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.

One team has to lose. We aren't dominant enough to just guarantee wins against possible top ten teams in week 1.

If you’re a true competitor, then you’re going to want these big games every week. LSU is a competitor and we want these games every week. Rent a wins are for the Ole Miss’s of the world.

I think he lost two openers at ND, none at Cincinnati, and 3 at Central Michigan. That's 8 in 21 years, 3 at a team that is one of those teams people would schedule as a game-one win.

Your typical sad sack take on LSU athletics.

this is so dumb

the sec is hard enough now.

there is no more computer rankings or quality wins or SOS factored in anymore in which we would need these games to help us like in the past in the BCS era.

now with a 12 team playoff these are not necessary. especially since CBK shits the bed every damn opener. we are behind the 8 ball every fricking year because of him.

There was a time when we all looked forward to the early games (Washington, Oregon, UNC, TCU, Wisconsin). The annual arse-kicking of a D1 caliber school on natl tv.

Alright then. I guess it’s better to start out 4-0 and then lose, then going 0-1 and winning the next 4-6. Better to find out what you’re weaknesses are in Week 1 than Weeks 6-8. Would we prefer a 2015 schedule, where we look dominant against average teams, then find out in the 9th game of the season, that we really aren’t that good, and we need to change and fix things up in order to compete?

I mean if anything, in this new 12 team playoff system, it’s better to have these tough opponents Week 1, because you can afford a couple of losses in this new system, plus you’re battle tested before everyone else.

I am beginning to believe this is the way. Look at preseason darlings like Ohio State and Ole Miss. They have laughably easy opponents and it doesn't seem to hurt their chances. At the very least, play a tough opponent in week 2 like Texas is, or in week 3 like Bama. I don't think the Tigers should dodge anyone, but there is a fairly valid argument to be made that LSU would have had better success against FSU and USC if these games would have been in week 2.

huh???

Bama has routinely had big-name opponents for the opening game. Georgia opened with Clemson this year and played Oregon the year before and Clemson again the year before that. FSU opened with us the past 2 years.

Nobody likes cupcake games. Schedule a good team for the first game and everyone's more excited. If we have our sights set on the playoffs, we should be able to beat a good team right off the bat.

Running scared of legitimate opponents in week 1 is a bad look.

USC had equal time (or lack thereof) to iron their team's kinks out too. If we play them in week 2, then both teams have the benefit of playing a cupcake in week 1 to work out some issues.

We were dumb to schedule FSU as our opener though while they had a week zero tune up game against a cupcake. THAT was an actual disadvantage for LSU in scheduling a high level opponent for our opener.

the neutral site games are cash grabs, they get a nice pay out and can maintain a full home schedule

this poster much be a teenager, because any college football fan knows that, over the last 10 or so years, Bama has scheduled legit teams the opening week: Michigan, West Virginia, Va Tech, FSU, Wisconsin, USC, Miami, etc.
