Nuss is not there yet

Not looking to bash Nuss as he played well enough to win but there are 2 plays that stand out to me where more PT will help him. On the 4th and goal play, once he spun out from m the initial blitz there was a great pocket there and all he had to do was step up and #4 was breaking open on the back of the endzone. He also could have run to his left between his linemen and probably ran into the endzone. Only his second start so he will hopefully learn after watching tape. And the skip pass to Anderson. He absolutely has to make that throw. TD at best, 1st down at worst. Also don't think Sloan helped with play call in 4th. My biggest issue is running the RPO without having Nuss keep and run as an option. Way too many times that was wide open. I think with Collins getting some reps this weekend they may be more comfortable running Nuss occasionally or letting Collins run some RPO just to keep the defense honest. It's the main reason they were able to shut down the running game in the 4th. They gave no attention to Nuss running. That needs to change.

Nuss was the highlight of the game for 90% of the game.
Literally money. You could count on a completion. Just until we were forced to score fast he messed up.

A lot of that is needing more reps, let him get out get more exposure to the pass rush and gain trust in his o line.

The guy making his 2nd career start “isn’t there yet”?
Shocker.
Shocker.

you do not need a QB run option after making the read on a RPO. make the read whether a vertical or horizontal RPO(like denbrock had) or hand the mfer off on a dive. what we need is some zone reads to keep the ends honest. they crashed all night. so many times he coulda pulled out and ran off tackle when we ran normal designed HB dives. you do not have to be a speedster for the zone read to work.

yet? lol, 4 years later...
Being here for 4 years doesn’t make him ready.
Game reps matter and he has very few of them.

not saying he isn't ready but him making his first start is not an excuse. He has been here for four years.

4 years, 3 different offensive coordinators and 1 career start.
Yeah, that guy should be a seasoned vet.

I admit I take part in posting stupid shite on here from time to time. It's easy to get caught up in emotion and not think clearly before posting something.
That said, Nuss was damn good for most of the game. Look at his stats, other than the interception in the last few seconds of the game, there's nothing to be negative about.

He has the luxury of running the same offensive system for the 3rd year in a row too. That is very rare in these days. He should have the offense 100% mastered by now.

Practicing and standing on the sidelines for 3 years =/= experience.
He’s more prepared than an underclassmen, but to expect him to just jump in and play like JD5 is foolish. He will progress quickly though. By Ole Miss the offense will be very good.

It is almost like experience matters. You think Joe Burrow in 2018 was Joe Burrow in 2019? Burrow was rough the first several games. I'd say that Nuss played better than he did early on. Same with Daniels. He wasn't JD of 2023, back in 2022. For his first regular season start I thought he was great. Of course he will learn and get more confident and comfortable the more he plays. By Ole Miss, he should be turning the corner with confidence.

I’m not sure you remember the QB play we had for the 100 years prior to Joe.

I agree he’s not a finished product but he’s a lot closer than you’re suggesting.
Push the ball down field a bit, keep a few balls to make RPO a real threat, get comfortable w this team (just needs more experience really) and you’re talking the next GREAT LSU quarterback.
My prediction: he’s going to have an outstanding season this year and compete for the Heisman/#1 draft pick in 2025.

I just said the same thing about Ole Miss. Only thing I disagree with was with JD. He wasn't a world beater at all in 2022...yeah he had stats, but over and over we were scratching our head about his inability to throw down the field, like he was scared of throwing a pick. Now though, after seeing them muzzle Nuss, my guess is that the coaches did to JD the same thing they are doing to Nuss...and that is make them scared to throw down the field in fear of throwing a pick. They will have to let Nuss open up some because that is HIS biggest asset that cannon of an arm.

Nuss was money on short dink and dunk.
That was not enough to win.
Whoever called plays and created the offensive strategy did him no favors.

Nuss played well enough. Sloan didn't go to Lacey enough in the 2nd half he was cooking.. him or Daniels needed more passes
