What is the benefit of Major Burns being on the field?

This dude is a 5th year senior, at this point, he should be a leader on the team, but instead, he's making dumb mistakes like taking off his helmet on the field, constantly getting burned in coverage, and missing tackles.
Seems like it'd be more productive to let a young guy do those things and hopefully learn from his mistakes as it doesn't seem Burns will.

I think his age and experience earned him playing time last night.

As I’ve said earlier, I’d personally like to see less Burns, Ryan and Gilbert on the field.
I don't know what Sage Ryan was doing on that play with under a minute remaining. He let the receiver go right by him. It appeared he was looking at the qb when his man went right by him (and made a great one-handed catch). He acted like he knew he had Gilbert helping him, but there’s no excuse to let a wideout get by you in that situation.
I don’t see how you can continue with that on the field. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Penn used more selectively. He has issues with mobility in that he has none. It hurts his ability to play, I think

There is no reason for Burns to play.
He gets beat every play. Like you said, let a freshman play and get burned every play. At least its reps.

Ju’Juan Johnson has more speed than him and probably won’t commit retarded penalties like taking his helmet off mid play

I can’t stand Burns but at least he occasionally mixes it up and tries to get physical. Gilbert looked like he was actively trying to avoid contact. Those 2 on the field at the same time = yeeeeeesh

I’d like to see a 50/50 split in the Nicholls game between Burns, Gilbert, and Ryan being one half and all of the freshman, RS freshman, and sophomores being the other half. Whomever plays the best plays the most.

Agree just play all the freshman + stamps in the secondary at this point. They are all literally better already

I'm racking my brain and literally the only "good thing" I remember from Burns is his INT at Missouri and he's been at LSU for 4 years.

Splitting time is a thing that must happen. I imagine Ryan and Gilbert and burns will get their playing time decreased as the younger guys get more reps. Lord help us if they don’t

It’s been speculated that toviano might be serving suspension time for his arrest. I don’t know that he was even in the game at all yesterday, which would support that idea. No idea for his availability for Nicholls, but it would be valuable time for him

I get that but he doesn't do anything especially well and hasn't gotten any better. Let's roll the dice with someone who may have a lower floor but higher ceiling, at this point.
At worst, you're getting a young guy reps.
