Shelton Sampson...What’s the deal?

Not only was he not next up when Hilton went out, he didn’t even come in when Kyle Parker went out. What’s the deal?

Would it have mattered? Sloan got a hard on for only throwing the ball less than 10 yards. Sampsons deep ball ability would’ve been useless.

Surprising to see guys like Aaron Anderson get run over him

Not only that, CJ Daniels was hardly targeted. Maybe 2-3 times. Sloan seems like just a call a play & hope the players make plays type of play caller/game planner. There was nothing designed to take advantage of individual offensive player's skill sets last night. Also, there didn't seem like any offensive personnel groupings or formations were used early in the game to set up plays later on out of those same personnel groupings & formations. That's what your great play callers do.

I was downvoted to hell last week when someone said he was starting to live up to the hype and I asked if he was even on the 2 deep

He's running 7th on the depth chart because he hasn't lived up to the hype.

Zavion was good and Anderson wasn't bad. I can see why he didn't play

Anderson was rated 47th in the country by 247 out of HS. 5th best WR in the country. 2nd best player in LA.
Sampson was rated 140th in the country by 247 out of HS. 21st best WR in the country. 4th best player in LA.
By what reasoning would it be surprising for a guy who is a year older, higher rated based on what you know of Sampson (HS rating), and who has been higher on depth chart since both came on campus?
Anderson looked like a baller.

This was a head-scratcher, esp. with Hilton out.

They paid him 800k to catch 3 checkdowns what a joke.

I share your frustration, but he will play in other games, I feel quite certain. Dare I say he might even have more than 19 total yards in some of them

Overrated - 5 star in HS and I saw him play Jesuit in championship and you wouldn’t even know he existed.

Soft and getting paid…..nuff said.

Hes a prototypical X receiver, same as Lacy. He can’t do the things that Anderson and Thomas can do.

If he was a real 5 star, he would have been playing and catching, even while the other NFL WR’s were here.
He is a bust that got paid, and they know it.

BK said today that they have to get Sampson involved and to expect to see him a lot Sat night be Nicholls

I thought he called a solid game in the first half, especially since we only had 4 possessions. Nuss not running two wide open QB keeps on the run option killed that first drive.
However, either he or Kelly's decision to take the air out in the second half in a tie game in which we had 200 yds in the air and the defense was holding its on was a horrible decision. Hell, we were even fairly successful at running the ball and still lost. Just a stupid game plan against a team that had a four man front and walk-up linebacker on 95% of our snaps.

I’d also like to see us get Durham some touches. He adds something that none of the other 3 backs have. We’ve got a 4 easy games and a bye week before Ole Miss. now is the time to really try to ramp up some of the freshmen you think may can be contributors this year.
But to the point of this thread, with Hilton and Parker out, now is the time for Sampson to make his move and take advantage of this opportunity. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be surprised if Billiot steps up. I think he’s gonna be a dude.
