Bodycam footage of officer who shot dog released. Deemed justifiable.

Look, it really sucks that those kids had to witness their dog die in this manner. My heart breaks for them. However, the reality is that this dog was never leashed and posed a threat to this officer. This terrible incident is the fault of the owners, not the cop.
But I’m sure there will be many on here who will still angrily blame the cop for this.
The entire thing is just incredibly sad.

He probably was "justified" but I still think situational discretion should be advised.
It clearly wasn't some rabid junk yard dog, it was obviously family pet and not a dangerous breed. Maybe based on that give the dog just a little bit more benefit of the doubt before you start blasting.

I stand by my statements in the other thread.
That level of threat from the dog doesn’t justify the officer discharging his weapon in the direct of children.
Just another instance of cops showing up to the house that called 911 for help and shooting someone/something.

frick all that. Agree completely that people need to keep their dog on a leash. If so, this never even happens.
That being said, the first shot goes off with dog running away. It looks like some rescue lab to me - not a pit. Cop is a trigger happy pussy. No reasonable guys first reaction based on that video should have been “four shots fired.”

That's exactly my thoughts especially after seeing body cam footage. A good whack with a night stick and that dog will GTFO even if it's aggressive.

Pretty sure he just acted like a scared dog. I will disagree it was justified. Cops are psychopaths and this happens far too much. That said, dogs should be leashed for their own safety. Irresponsible owner is also to blame.

Yes, she should have had the dog on a leash, but that doesn't mean the cop should've shot the dog.
If she would have had it on a leash, this wouldn't have happened. It also wouldn't have happened if the cop wasn't a typical douchebag cop on a power trip.
