I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but my health insurance, bcbsla, jumped a $100 per month for the second time this year. It’s just me and my 20 yo on my plan and my company covers 80% of mine, but none on my kid. $2,400 increase in one year for 2 of us is insane, My kid is in college now. Is there any type of plan for college students? Anybody else found options? In between this, $100 extra monthly HO insurance, $40 extra auto, and property tax increase coming things are getting tight.

Most schools offer health insurance. My daughter’s school requires it if they are not on a family plan. If I recall, my daughter’s school charges $3,300 a year.

I have no idea about what sort of networks, etc would be involved or if it is “good” insurance, as my daughter is on my plan.

He’s a college student… he doesn’t need health insurance.

Goldschlager, jager, or rumpleminze will fix any illness he comes down with for $20.

Your kid can apply on the marketplace and it’ll show them options for low income and/or Medicaid

Fyi, self employed, my mediocre blue cross plan is $1000/month. Just so you can contemplate how much your employer is paying for you.

On your rant, we can afford to bend and break every rule in DC to fund wars in Ukraine and Israel, no matter the frick what. And fund health care for immigrants, But we can’t do anything to control our own health care costs.

This is the path we’re on. Wake up, Americans.

Can they do a network plan if still a dependent? I may check and see if the college offers a plan. $3300 annual would be half what it costs now.

Believe me, I’m not complaining about my company. Mine would be about $1,000 if they didn’t cover 80%. It’s just frustrating paying $7,500 a year for a healthy 20 yo.

Yes you can

Be careful with the college option. I’d imagine it’s going to be limited to the clinic on campus and its surrounding affiliates, limited specialities if needed, and out of network costs

Obama is to blame. It was bad before he passed that terrible law but he made it much worse. This is not unique to Louisiana.

What’s even worse is health systems are closing hospitals left and right while payers like BCBS are seeing record profits.

Interesting. So even a dependent could go through the marketplace and get a cheap plan as a part time worker or college student? That partially explains why the insurance is going up in the first place.

Health insurance is prob the most overvalued thing in this country. I’m 30 and wouldn’t have insurance if my wife’s employer didn’t pay for it. Some Prescription meds are more money with insurance than without. What does a healthy 20 year old need insurance for?
