How does the New Orleans Mayor get away with it

The city of New Orleans’ expenditures from its general fund in 2023 increased by 43% compared to the previous year as it outspent its revenues by about $126.8 million.

They think its funny wasting yalls tax money at this point.
They can elect who they want in inner cities, spend however they want and they know the media will protect them and their people will still vote for them.
They have to be investigated and PROVEN to be criminals before being locked up.
If a white man did this he would be serving time.

80% of the voters don’t watch the news and only care come voting time bc the community leaders give them a free ride to the polls or something of value to go vote

Her core constituency isn't paying taxes anyway.
Some of the whites are afraid of looking racist if they say anything.
Others are surreptitiously feeding at the same trough she is. A guy I went to LSU with is from a family that has been getting rich off city contracts and do nothing jobs for multiple generations. The gravy train still pulls into their station with Cantrell in charge the same as it has under previous mayors.
Everybody else has moved away or is so rich it insulates them from the daily struggles of living in a third world shithole. With enough money even Port Au Prince is probably tolerable.

It’s Louisiana. Politicians have been ‘getting away with it’ since the beginning of time.
The state has so many natural resources, it’s set up to succeed, yet it remains and always will remain a bottom dweller. The sad thing is locals take pride in that.

I was downtown week before the essence at a hotel and I overheard 2 parking lot attendants bragging how they got invited to a champagne toast with Latoya and it was gonna be the JAM because erybody know that Latoya know how to get down and party.

If they are spending the money to finally fix drainage and roads, this might not be that big of a problem. However, if they are frittering the money away on trips and bar tabs, this is a huge problem.
It would be interesting to see where the money is going.
