Sonos announced it was cutting 6% of its global workforce — representing roughly 110 people — last week following a recent quarterly earnings announcement, during which executives disclosed they will spend $20 to $30 million fixing the app, investing in customer support and embarking on other initiatives to win back peeved buyers.

What happened to you, Sonos?

I'm way too deep in to have to worry about this.

I think I have to just trust they fix it.

It costs 20-30 million to fix an app such that it starts playing the music you ask it to play?

I remember when Sonos motto used to be "play all the music" but now like everyone else they cripple it with drm, commercials and subpar support for my local library.

So busy trying to close all the loopholes around unauthorized music they ruined it for everyone.

I know nothing about Sonos but perhaps you could download an old version of the app?

Anyone got the short story on what is going on here for the folks that don't mess with sonos?

won't work. Sonos speakers have updated firmware that are incompatible with the older controller

poorly designed update to the speaker controller app across all platforms resulting in nightmare issues adding speakers and playing music on existing systems.

boggles my mind how something so critical to the core success of that company can be screwed up so badly.

SONOS is literally the app. That's it. Sure there's different hardware but there's ONE app.

I am the exception to the problems that have plagued the recent app updates. I have had no issues with the app. My use case is a little different though as we mostly use our system to stream music from Apple Music or other services with existing playlists/stations.

I'm still rocking the S1 app

The only device in my home it won't control is my ARC, but I use the TV remote to control the volume on it

i mean, home assistant or hubitat is a fringe use case.

and this is coming from someone who integrated sonos with his hubitat and actually had to manually edit the XML to get it to play certain sound clips based on triggers when you walked into different rooms.

for 99% of the world, its a phone app.

My only problem is delay. The app takes like 90 seconds to register a song is playing and any inputs, changing tracks, etc. are similarly delayed.

SonoPhone is like Windows 3.1 level but it works without issue for me when I just don't want to deal with the Sonos app

I wish Apple and Google would get in to the game to help spur competition and innovation.
