Is the only way to catch these guys to put out a trap(s) and hope for the best? Seems you have to basically build them a Disney-like ride queue to guide them there. In the Dallas area if anyone has a recommendation.

You must find their hole where they are hangin at.
Set trap right at hole. I like to cover the bottom with straw or something.
When he comes up you have a fair shot he'll go in.
My boss has done 2 this way.

The wooden trap guys claim armadillos like the smell of traps that have already had an armadillo in them. They even sell pre-scented traps.

I have kind of directed them towards my wooden traps (homemade) with fencing, bricks, and other objects to funnel them that direction. I’ve caught a number of them.

case of cheap, light beer and a scoped .22 rifle sounds like a hell of a Friday night/Saturday morning.

Traps work but they have to be placed right. As said, if you catch one don’t wash the trap the scent will help catch another.

When they were invading our yard last year, it was surprising how early they came out...

I'd walk out and look around at 830, then every 30 minutes after that.

A 22 with subsonic shouldn't bother the neighbors, especially if you warn them.

Best of luck

true story.

one late Monday night several years ago, watching MNF (after 11:00)
Big storm approaching. wind kicking up and I hear clanging outside and think it's one of the electrical panel doors may be open, so I go to investigate.
Lo and behold it's an armadillo playing around with the rope on an extension ladder that I keep next to the HVAC units.
Run and get my Gamo Whisper pellet gun and a flashlight.
Head back out and he's in the woods just off front yard.
So, with the flashlight in the same hand I'm supporting the gun, I shoot from about 12-15 yds away. Son of a gun jumps and spins and spins and spins some more and then.....nothing. Dead. I left him there for the coyotes to clean up.

When you set your trap, be sure to water your yard that evening. Seems to bring their food source closer to the surface and you'll have a better chance at success.

Killed one years ago in my yard with a crossbow. This was pre-Ring cameras and such so we put my kid's baby monitor on the porch and waited one Saturday night. About 10:30, we saw him on the camera and he was dispatched from about 20yds out. Word of advice...don't put a dead armadillo in your garbage can in the summer if your garbage day is more than 4 days away.

Friend has a camp in False River. When they were watering their lawn on the reg, the dillos came to dig….a lot. He tried using a .22 rifle and sat in the yard for hours after dark and even to 2-3am. They would come to dig after he went to bed.

They are almost blind. get some night crawlers from a store. Put the dirt inside the trap. They can smell the dirt very well. Stand the boards on edge. This set up funnels them into the trap.

I came in to post that very information. Armidillos carry a variety of nasty germs and should be handled with extreme caution.

I use metal live traps, but be sure to use a good heavy duty trap. I had some that kept busting out of a lightweight live trap I had- basically kept ramming the closed door until a bracket bent.

I bought a Dukes brand and solved that.

Basically I placed the trap where there were doing a lot of digging. I then took two 2x8x10 boards and made them into a V to funnel the armadillos to the trap. Worked like a charm.

Get rid and what they're coming into your yard to eat and you'll get rid of the armadillos. Grub worms

I've caught 100s of them by running them down with a salmon net and a headlamp.

I worked in the Gillis W. Long Hansen's Disease Center @ the LSU Vet School back in the late 90s.

I caught 100s of them in the field for research and to bring back to the animal house where we were attempting to create a true vaccine for leprosy.

My buddies went with me a few times to help drive the truck and hold an extra light while out in the fields and pastures. Some good times man.

I know this is an old thread, I was out of town for a few days and came home to an armadillo in each of my two wooden traps. One trap just sitting in my back yard with nothing to funnel the armadillo to it. The other has some bushes and the side of the house that sort of leads them to it.

The wooden traps, all funky with armadillo smell seem to work very well.
