quote:
Phil Donahue, a longtime daytime TV talk show host, has died at age 88 after a long illness, according to media reports citing a family statement to Today.
Donahue was known for “The Phil Donahue Show,” which ran from 1967 to 1995.
He was married to actress Marlo Thomas, now best known for her involvement with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, for 44 years.
He had been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in May by President Joe Biden.
Donahue began in media career in the late 1950s, and was considered the “king of daytime talk TV,” People said. The show was considered the first to allow members of the audience to ask questions.

He was a liberal pinko commie, I won't shed a tear.

This much is true but he was probably important to someone

True. But at least he was willing to bring guests who disagreed on. He had Milton Friedman on several times. If you haven't seen the clips of those episodes, I highly recommend it to watch Friedman school Donahue and his liberal audience!

He will vote for Kamala in the upcoming election.

He even had Rush Limbaugh on a few times.

I'd have lost a lot of money on a "is Phil Donahue still alive" bet

I’m amazed he outlasted Leslie Nielsen by this many years.

People may want to bring up his politics, et al, but the work he and Marlo Thomas have done over the years for StJude's has been outstanding. He was quiet overall in terms of the spotlight on it, but he was very involved

One small part of our cultural decay. Without Phil, there would have been no Downey, Springer and other daytime freak show hosts.
Happy birthday, Phil. Carry that water all the way to hell.

Meh, couldn’t stand the guy. Prototypical limousine liberal. Always wagging his finger at the yokels in flyover country.

I really, really, really hated his show. Epitomized male feminism.
It seemed to always convey that kind of brain-dead, non-judgmental "I'm okay, you're okay" blather towards freakish ideologies and freakish lifestyles, and in this way paved the road for Oprah, Sally Jesse Rafael, Jenny Jones, and all that garbage-tv, to brainwash generations of housewives into becoming mental morons with destructive voting habits.
