I'm not sure if Trump is doing this intentionally, but in a way, he is trying to herd the right together and act in uniform, in order to create a challenge to the left who does act cohesive and in lockstep all the time.
It sucks for independent thinker types, but in this current political climate everyone needs to find a side. No room for fence sitters.
