Kid was killed June 29 of 2006.
Then this tidbit in the article:
"Walz served for 24 years and became master sergeant in the Minnesota Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery.
He retired in 2005 and his rank was reduced from command sergeant major because he didn't complete the coursework for the U.S. Sergeants Major Academy. "
Retired in 2005. Kid killed in June of 2006.
Walz put in his retirement paperwork in April of 2005. Orders were issued for his unit in July of 2005.
Talk about a misleading hit piece?

He was promoted to Command Sgt Major and intended to lead the unit in Iraq.
He bugged out before they got to Iraq, meaning they had to find a new Command Sgt Major on short notice when they were set to deploy.
Think of it as Brett Favre saying he will be back as your starting QB then retiring a month before the season. You can’t exactly replace him on short notice.

Walz should be in Gitmo, not on the ticket as a vice presidential candidate.

Leftist despise the military, since it’s the keeper of the spirit of this country’s heritage. They’re more than happy to use it for their own self aggrandizing, but hate what it represents.

He didn't have orders to Iraq until after his retirement papers were filed. What are you talking about?
You don't put in your retirement papers and leave the next day. It doesn't work like that in the military.
Orders for Iraq weren't received until July. He had no way of knowing his unit was going to Iraq later in the years without orders being issued.
I'm a veteran, unlike many of you clowns. I know how this shite works.

March 17th is when he knew. A news article about it is linked above in the thread.

Try again
quote:
As he ramped up for a congressional bid in 2005, Walz’s campaign in March issued a statement saying he still planned to run despite a possible mobilization of Minnesota National Guard soldiers to Iraq. According to the Guard, Walz retired from service in May of that year.
quote:
In August 2005, the Department of the Army issued a mobilization order for Walz’s unit. The unit mobilized in October of that year before it deployed to Iraq in March 2006.
Despite his having retired several months before the deployment order was issued, it’s the fact that Walz left the service ahead of his unit’s departure that Republicans have pointed to in attempts to argue that he was aiming to avoid being sent to a combat zone.
And, he was so adamant to avoid serving that he rushed his retirement.
quote:
By the time Walz left the military entirely, he had achieved the rank of command sergeant major, one of the top ranks for an enlisted soldier. But personnel files show that he was reduced in rank months after retiring, leaving him as a master sergeant for benefits purposes. Minnesota National Guard officials have said that Walz retired before completing coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, along with other requirements associated with his promotion.
Keep trying though. This is fun.
