Not true if Utah is a legit destination for BI. If Lauri is waiting a day to sign a max then we may not know until Wednesday what's happening or not with BI.

If nothing is done tm, he cannot sign an extension with the Pelicans (with the intent to still trade him) as the NBA trade deadline is Feb 6th 2025 and you are required to keep newly signed vets for 6 months.

He can still be traded as an expiring though.

We will just know the Pelicans stance on this subject.

3 year 34, 36, 40. Guarantee 45%. Non restricted.

That’s my guess. If this is going to the wire and Nola flinches.

Excited about the depth, with or without bi.

He would have to be traded at the deadline because I would assume any sign-and-trade will be almost in possible with cap rules. So someone would need him at the deadline to sign him with rights already.

I find it hard to believe BI will go into the season without some type of contrac extension considering the fact he has played over 65 games in a season only his rookie year.

Hope I’m wrong, I’m usually not. But I called my shot weeks ago. He’ll get traded as a sign and trade next offseason for scraps.

If we are winning Griff will be to scared to trade him at the deadline. If we are struggling or BI is not playing team ball, maybe he trades him at the deadline for something. But it won’t be anything needle moving.

Zion has more help as of right now. Bi needs to prove he’s healthy for pels or a team that needs a 20+ points wing. He’s a former all star, but what have you done for me lately, good time management rotation with z first half of the season? I see him healthy starting game 1.

That's a bad deal for us right now. The market just showed us his worth, which is somewhere around 25-30M/year. I'm pretty sure he's going to demand a 4 year deal. So I think a 4Y/110M deal would be fair for both sides. Slight overpay. But it would get it done. His agent has got to be realistic and see that a max deal is not coming. He needs to lock down that last big deal..

That seems low.

What comparable player got that this offseason?

Pels need to get BI to waive the trade kicker this year to make him a little more movable. He also does not want to go into this year on a one year deal, so there is room to negotiate.

DeMar Derozan is his best comp in the NBA, and he just got 3/74.

Age makes a bit of difference there.

I seriously doubt they expect 3 years of quality

Except Derozan is 35 years old. Not a good comp at all.

Absolutely. But not 10-15 million a year difference.

Besides that they have put up nearly identical stats in nearly identical roles, the fact that the kings made the exact same trade offer for each of them shows that it is the best comp from this cycle.

So you think a team invests in a 35 year old the same way they would in a 26 year old? Not the case at all. They get the 35 year old for less (unless it is a beast like Lebron) because the chance of a short term decline is high compared to a 26 year old. No one believes that given similar stats that both are worth the same as far as a contract.
