LSU Handshake Jobs program..

Their website is not very informative. For those who started applying for jobs upon graduation, is this a good resource to use? I can't tell if it is for students who want part time work while in school or if its used to match up applicants for starting positions in the corporate world.
My son is 2025 graduating with Poly Sci. Has internship experience in the financial investments world as well as local Governors and Judicial races. Open to both jobs in Policy/Lobby or Investments. Advice on all avenues with which to start uploading resumes. Already on Linked-in.
Are LSU resources worth a damn?

So he majored in beer drinking and arse chasing? Good job dad!

Tell your son he’ll have more luck making a list of all the places he might want to work, going to the websites of all those places, and looking for a Jobs/Career section of the website.
Handshake is okay, but you’ll severely limit your options if you rely on it as your primary job search location. The web is a big place… students with the diligence to go company by company through the web will always find more opportunities than students who rely on an aggregator like Handshake.

Handshake is just a platform, for some reason universities are pushing it over established platforms. It's not very good.

You’re a Republican and you let your kid chase a worthless degree instead of joining the military or trade school? Did he take student loans too?

Hate to be that guy, but if he is having to look on handshake then he doesn’t have the right connections for a lobbyists job in the first place.

Best of luck getting into any of that in Louisiana.
People I know in political lobbying made their bones on a successful state campaign, leveraged that for better jobs and have been "around" for almost 20 years.
Some others got into it by "connections" to more influential folks.
Pretty sure you have to move for "investments" unless you want to work for Northwestern Mutual cold calling your closest 200 friends.

Do you go on job interviews with him too? Or just line them up?

Linkedin and Indeed are better

Yeah we use handshake when recruiting out of LSU. Most universities we go through uses Handshake.

The only poly sci grad I know ended up getting a MPA, then got a PhD, and is now a dean and director of grants at a community college

Use keyword searches on indeed and then apply directly. There is a lot of low paid grunt work in politics if you are open to moving. You aren’t going to walk into a cushy well paid job unless you have connections.

I have a Poli Sci degree but do cybersecurity. Use his Poli Sci degree to get the critical thinking skills needed for another career field.
