Dishwasher. The peak of human engineering.

You can have your fake NASA moon rockets and in b4youmeanyourwiferight.
The dishwasher is it. I sometimes load this thing up with dishes in a state that would violate labor laws in a dozen countries and when I open it the next morning to apologize to the dishwasher and pull them out to finish them by hand they're done and perfect.
It's magic. I am actually that guy who prefers to clean larger things by hand and it's so hard to justify that when this thing out does my manual OCD cleaning attempt.
That is all.

Ah
Amongst many other things
And I plan out each loading of the dishwasher to maximize organization so I get ya.

I lived a few months in a shitty student apartment without a dishwasher and gained a new appreciation for it.

Moved from our custom built 7 year old house to a 30 year old house with no dish washer 2 years ago. Have a whole new respect for that appliance.

That would be indoor plumbing. We could've stopped there.

Romans had indoor plumbing 2,000 years ago. Where's their dishwasher?

It's invaluable for sous vide cooking.

Lots of cool stuff going on in there

I'm one of those weirdos that basically cleans my dishes before they go into the washer. I know the science behind why I don't NEED to do that, but it's a mental thing for me.
Mostly because I've opened friends' dishwashers and about fell out from how nasty the smell was just sitting there with a bunch of nasty dishes.

I rinse them before putting them in and if there's cooked on food, I spray with the Dawn power stuff and let that sit for a bit so I can rinse that off. I don't run the dishwasher until it's pretty full and the thought of food all over dishes etc... sitting a few days is gross to me.

And they actually use remarkably little water for the work they do. Very cool appliances.

no i just wash off big chunks but other than that, let the dishwasher fulfill its destiny. if i start rinsing something off i'm going to end up doing the whole thing by hand.

You would likely use less water running it every day only partially full.

Yup. A modern dishwasher uses about 3 gallons of water per cycle. The average kitchen faucet flows about 1.5 gallons of water per minute. So anyone who spends more than two minutes per day washing dishes would be equally or better served by running the dishwasher once a day.

Old house is on 20 acres in the middle of nowhere, new house was in an HOA neighborhood.

Fair enough. The reason I wait for it to fill mostly up isn't really related to water usage, if I'm being totally honest.
But regardless, just always have been a rinser for whatever reason. I suppose my parents are as well. And the sink runs the whole time I'm loading the washer anyway because probably 30% of what I just used isn't ideal being run through the dishwasher.

This certainly isn't me judging. My wife probably runs 30 gallons of water scrubbing every tiny speck off of every dish, and then washing it again for good measure. It's a battle I gave up on years ago, but I still try to spread the good word when I can

I clean my dishes clean before I put it in dishwasher. I'm just OCD about having things clean.
I'm not trusting a machine to do my cleaning
