NYC in one day recs?

I’ve never been to NYC before but will be traveling for work with my wife in tow who has. Will fly in on September 11, work Thursday-Fri then have Friday evening and Saturday off together before flying home Sunday.
~30 yo, married, LSU baw. Staying at a hotel on park place I think.
Is ground zero something you have to see since I’ll be there around the anniversary? One thing my wife mentioned I’m sure I would enjoy would be the natural history museum but if there’s other great recommendations don’t want to spend the entire day there.
Also lsu game @usce is at noon and don’t know if it’s worth skipping or searching for a good place to watch
TIA.

There could be a hundred different responses, depending on different interests.
One thing I would definitely suggest is going up in one of the big skyscrapers to see the city from above: either the Freedom Tower, the Empire State Building, or Top of the Rock.

also food recs? Could go for some high end Asian dining (ramen, sushi) that I’m not going to get at home

Will need to defer to others on high end. But dim sum in Chinatown could be a great option. Or maybe a food tour there?
As far as watching the game, I’d probably skip it if you’re trying to make the most of your day. That said, hitting up the LSU alumni bar could be a lot of fun. I love doing that for Bama games and the NY one is one of the best.
If I had one day, I’d spend it in museums and then see a show that night. But that’s just me. Another option would be to use a e-bike and ride up the Hudson.

We did the tasting counter at Sushi Nakasawa a while back and enjoyed it.

My first trip to NYC were to a boat tour around the city. I thought it was a great first step to get a view from the water. Pair that with a skyscraper view and its a good start

Koreatown is concentrated around 32nd St between Broadway and 5th Ave. (not that far from you). I'm not a high-end kind of guy, so I usually go to the food court area and buy from one of the stalls, but there are definitely plenty of high-end options.

maybe I should’ve considered what high end in NYC means first.
I’ll have to look into our company expensing policy but not looking to spend $500 on a dinner for two. I’ll look at some Chinatown restaurants for dinner Friday.
Thinking Saturday will be AMNH - late lunch at Legends (lsu bar) for end of football game - top of the rock observation deck - perhaps look into a show? before turning in at hotel bar for night

Natural History Museum is great.
9/11 is very well done, but it is very sad.
I would go to a Broadway Show, cruise the harbor, NH museum.

10AM- Circle Line Tour 2.5 hour full Island tour
After, head to Rudy's or LSU Alumni bar to watch the rest of the LSU game. After...
Head to The Grand Central Station Oyster Bar for the Clam Chowder.
After...visit The Top of The Rock.
Then take a short subway ride to Hudson Yards and walk The High Line. From there walk to Washington Square Park for a quick visit.
Head to the Comedy Cellar from there.
Given one day in NYC I would avoid things that take all day...Statue of Liberty and Museums.
Realize you can't do everything in one day.
But the suggestions I gave are doable...and will maximize the experience.
Plus...Rudy's has cheap drinks and free hot dogs

Wife and I just went.
For bagels, recommend Tompkin Square Bagels (3 locations around downtown).
For KBBQ, go to Nubiani.
Italian - recommend Torrisi, but this reservation is extremely difficult to get and even to get in.

I’ve been to a few LSU bars in NYC to watch a game. The last few times was Legends. Always a great time. It always seems like the degree of separation between people there was razor thin. Meaning, everyone there knew the same people back at LSU.
As for one day in NYC. Don’t try and do too much. Pick a really small part of town and explore it. Don’t waste the day going from one side of town to the other.

Legends is the best place to watch the game. Great environment.

I may get downvoted to oblivion on this, but for a first timer in New York with only one day, I'd take some of the recommendations you're getting here, map them out and then sign up for one of the double decker bus dealios. Use that to get you to those highlighted places / restaurants as much as possible. Start whenever the first bus runs, and then switch to Uber / transit when the last bus runs. You'll probably have enough stuff near where that bus goes to make a full day of it. If the weather is nice, it's even better.
You'll actually have the time to absorb some of the stuff you're seeing and it will drop off close enough to the stuff you want to see and do.
(Just hop off before it gets to the Bus Terminal / Times Square - you'll spend more time sitting in traffic than moving.)
You might be more efficient taking Uber / transit exclusively - but you'll miss a lot of the city underground or in the back of a dirty Camry with a Senegalese immigrant talking loudly into his earbuds.
You'll want to go back and "do it for real" - so move around "the real way" next time, once you get the lay of the land.

If I had one day in NYC and had never been before, I sure as frick wouldn't waste 3-4 hours watching an LSU game
