NYC in one day recs?

There could be a hundred different responses, depending on different interests.

One thing I would definitely suggest is going up in one of the big skyscrapers to see the city from above: either the Freedom Tower, the Empire State Building, or Top of the Rock.

That’s a good idea, I do lots of NPs and like scenic spots. A good spot for getting the backdrop of all the skyscrapers would be cool

also food recs? Could go for some high end Asian dining (ramen, sushi) that I’m not going to get at home

We did the tasting counter at Sushi Nakasawa a while back and enjoyed it.

Koreatown is concentrated around 32nd St between Broadway and 5th Ave. (not that far from you). I'm not a high-end kind of guy, so I usually go to the food court area and buy from one of the stalls, but there are definitely plenty of high-end options.

Pizza at Rubirosa
Drinks at The Carlyle Hotel

Summit One
Rooftop at the Edition in Time Square

Quality Italian or Quality Meats for dinner

Go to 7th street burgers

10AM- Circle Line Tour 2.5 hour full Island tour

After, head to Rudy's or LSU Alumni bar to watch the rest of the LSU game. After...

Head to The Grand Central Station Oyster Bar for the Clam Chowder.

After...visit The Top of The Rock.

Then take a short subway ride to Hudson Yards and walk The High Line. From there walk to Washington Square Park for a quick visit.

Head to the Comedy Cellar from there.

Given one day in NYC I would avoid things that take all day...Statue of Liberty and Museums.

Realize you can't do everything in one day.

But the suggestions I gave are doable...and will maximize the experience.

Plus...Rudy's has cheap drinks and free hot dogs

Wife and I just went.

For bagels, recommend Tompkin Square Bagels (3 locations around downtown).
For KBBQ, go to Nubiani.
Italian - recommend Torrisi, but this reservation is extremely difficult to get and even to get in.

Legends is the best place to watch the game. Great environment.

I may get downvoted to oblivion on this, but for a first timer in New York with only one day, I'd take some of the recommendations you're getting here, map them out and then sign up for one of the double decker bus dealios. Use that to get you to those highlighted places / restaurants as much as possible. Start whenever the first bus runs, and then switch to Uber / transit when the last bus runs. You'll probably have enough stuff near where that bus goes to make a full day of it. If the weather is nice, it's even better.

You'll actually have the time to absorb some of the stuff you're seeing and it will drop off close enough to the stuff you want to see and do.

(Just hop off before it gets to the Bus Terminal / Times Square - you'll spend more time sitting in traffic than moving.)

You might be more efficient taking Uber / transit exclusively - but you'll miss a lot of the city underground or in the back of a dirty Camry with a Senegalese immigrant talking loudly into his earbuds.

You'll want to go back and "do it for real" - so move around "the real way" next time, once you get the lay of the land.
