I’m not here to argue that “We ShOuLd GeT riD oF ThiS StUpID tRadItIoN” BS, Because we all know someone is getting the number…

I’m going Josh Williams, dude has been here since Matt Flynn was QB, and he is as hard a worker as there is and plays with all Heart. JMO

I don't hate the 18 tradition. If it means something to the guys, i'm fine with it.

I never had issue with 18 and no longer have issue with 7 since BK changed its meaning.

With that said, Josh Williams is a good choice. Mason Taylor would also be a good choice imo. As would Emory Jones or Garrett Delinger but I get that it would kind of suck to have both special numbers be on the OL where they can't wear them.

That would be about as dumb as Ed O giving out multiple 18s

I agree with Josh Williams.

Could also see a Greg Penn

That's my general feeling as well. If it matters to the players, keep it.

But from a fan perspective is a ridiculously overrated (and completely manufactured) tradition and largely meaningless. . It arose as an inside joke that the number 18 was only fit for "unathletic" white guys. Hester was assigned the number after Mauck by the equipment manager in just the regular course of assigning freshmen open numbers. There was no significance in the assignment whatsoever. Hester then jokingly "assigned" the number to his buddy, another "unathletic" white guy, Richard Dickson. Again, mostly has a joke. That's how the "tradition" was born. The aura of it having a great significance was COMPLETELY created well after that fact.

IMO, for a fanbase that loves to bash A&M for their goofy traditions it comes across as very A&M-esque with their No. 12 tradition. Maybe if there was some great significance in the number, like Ole Miss memorializing No. 38 following the death of Chucky Mullins, it would be different.

18 shouldn't be anything official from the coach IMO. It should be voted by the team for someone that can actually wear it.

Let #7 just be a DBU thing.

Introduce 3 team captain patches for each phase of the game.

So hypothetically if 7 was a DBU thing this year, would it even be worn? None of them have proven anything

Now you've gone too far.

And as far as A&M traditions go, the 12 is by far the least cringeworthy.

I never had an issue with it, I had an issue with giving it to multiple people.

I had an issue with 7 because it naturally always ended up in a playmakers hands and then it seemed forced and not organic under Orgeron.

Josh or Major are my two top choices.

Non OL consideration, I’d say:
Josh Williams
Nuss
Penn
Taylor
Guillory
All really make a case.

Not sure how Emery is behind the scenes but he could be a dark horse. He has some haters on here, but he’s worked his arse off, had some key contributions, and came back again.

As far as 7, would love to see Perk with that 7 on.

Best in state player. It was nice when it organically ended up in a skill players hands. I once had an LSU staffer dm me when I made a comment referencing Giles.
