He comes off as very based on his podcast. I love everything about Alexi except for his soccer takes, which are absolutely ridiculous.

Oh man he's gonna really piss the soccer community off even more than he already does. Which he obviously knows and feeds off of. Those posts are trolling them at a high level and I love it.

Lalas getting roasted on a daily basis for the past month turned him MAGA.

Lots of people shite on him, but he's been my favorite soccer sportscaster for decades. I appreciate his honesty / candidness when talking US soccer.

What are some of these takes?

Alexi grew up in suburban Detroit (same town as Tim Allen), which can be a pretty conservative area compared to the city itself.

Alexi has kind of become the US Soccer version of Stephen A. Smith over the last 10 years or so. He enjoys attention, even if it means pissing people off or spitting outlandish hot takes he doesn’t really believe. Every once in a while, I think the genuine Alexi shines through, and I really like that version of him when he isn’t playing a character on TV.

I’ve seen interviews of him from 1993 before the ‘94 World Cup, and he seems like a super chill guy that would be a blast to hang out with.

I’m still kinda shocked he’s posting this so publicly, given the general political affiliation of soccer fans and pundits in this country. This board of course has far more conservative posters, because TigerDroppings mostly has users from the Southeast. It’s fair to say that hardcore American soccer fans generally skew more left politically, and the far-left portion of the fanbase is extremely outspoken and visible to the point where the USSF and MLS feel the need to pander to them, which is off-putting to the people we want to attract to grow the sport.

I used to be a pretty active poster in the MLS subreddit until the summer of 2020, when it became incredibly toxic and almost indistinguishable from an ANTIFA subreddit. I got my account flagged for arguing with some Sounders fan that Ben Shapiro isn’t a Nazi and using that word so loosely is dangerous and stupid. That experience really soured me to participating further in that community.

Thinking the best MLS team would be a mid table team in the EPL is the latest one to come to mind.

So how do you think Inter Miami would do if their roster played, including Messi and Suarez?

That’s a big hot take? Inter Miami is basically full of ex champions league players and saying they might finish mid table in the EPL is ludicrous? I’m no MLS pumper by any means, but your reaction sounds more like snobby EPL fans gatekeeping the prestige of the league.

I'm an MLS fan above all, so I feel comfortable saying the best MLS team would get relegated for sure. That's not so much a knock on MLS, as it is praising how good EPL is.

Eventually MLS will get to the point where that’s plausible

I interpret this to mean as barely avoiding relegation, and not much more. Still probably generous.

No, he said mid table and everybody else on the panel said either last place or relegated.

I totally get it.

We dropped our Atlanta United season tickets in part simply because we just didn’t really mesh with the fanbase over time.

Plenty of normal people support it, of course, but most of the very involved types are on the social fringes. We just didn’t think it made sense for us as an ongoing community to hang out with/invest in.
