Low-risk, potentially high reward if he can grow into a starter or even key role player in a year or 2

Good move at the money. I still believe he can soak up 10-12 minutes a night for the varsity. Good athlete. Professional experience. Hustles and has some skills. Christian Clark said he was told Karlo was easily the best player on the floor in practice all week, FWIW...

Easy out to if it doesn’t work out, and if it does work out then he’s a RFA at the end of the deal. Smart all around

Saying on the SL broadcast that they’ve been told Reeves will likely get the 15th roster spot. Looks like this will be our starting 15 for the season

Murray/CJ/Jose
Herb/Hawk/Ryan
BI/Trey/Reeves
Zion/JRE
Theis/Karlo/Missi

I’m missing someone, maybe they are too..

No, I think that only puts us at 14, but I think that's where we'll stay for the time being, to save money.

So is this a better roster than our 2023-2024 pelicans? It’s basically Murray on and Jonas, Nance, Naji, and Dyson out.

I think that is an overall better team because I believe Murray is going to fit very well with Zion and that is largely all that matters. But man do we have a black hole at center.

Not just center, but rebounding overall. Losing top 3 rebounders, and 6 of top 8 (in per 36 and TRB%) with JRE being 4th, and Zion being 7th in that list. *Theis (or Karlo using G League stats) would have been 4th on the list if he was a Pel last season.

Going to be interesting…would really love if Griff picked up another big bodied guy that has some experience getting the dirty work done.

Depth is much worse. Top 6 is better.

Top 6 matters more, but may not show up until playoffs.

I'll say it again. We go as far as Zion takes us. It's that simple.

I spend more time arguing over mid level dudes like Ingram when really none of it matters unless Zion becomes a top 10 and really a top 5 player.

He shows up out of shape again, and it's just gonna be groundhog day with or without Murray/BI, etc.

This is not a better roster. If this is our roster, we have lost 4 pieces of our rotation and replaced them with one upgrade, a guy who was not a part of an NBA rotation to close last season, and two second round picks. That is in addition to JRE and Matt Ryan. So we have 5 guys who are basically fringe NBA players and a rookie who has been playing the sport for less than 5 years.

I will continue to say that there is no way that the first time we pay the tax will be for a team with 5 fringe NBA players and the worst center rotation in the league. A trade is coming.

It's going to be a good bit better, because our young core of Zion, Trey, Herb, Jose, and Hawk will be better. Yes, we still have CJ who might age a bit, but without JV and Larry, we're a much younger team that will improve as the season progresses.

I'm expecting a lot of improvement from the Zion/Trey/Herb trio.

The other reason we're better is that, last season, we really had excess depth and a lack of elite talent. We really needed another elite player, especially someone who can do the things that Dejounte can do, and someone who can help us close out games. The only allow you to have five players on the floor at a time, and the five we'll put on the floor at the end of the game will be better than the other team's five.

How does Herb and Trey get better and develop as a threesome with Zion with neither starting games with Zion?

We're going to roll Herb out at center to start the year aren't we?

I know you are kind of joking. But we have almost 3 months to the start of the season. Jones is the one guy on the team I would trust to sacrifice himself and bulk up. He could do a cycle and binge eat. He is currently at about 210lbs. I could get him to 240 by the start of the season. Most is going to be additional fat. But he is cut now, and some bulk wouldn't hurt him that much. I'd rather that than any of the other guys we have seeing any time at the 5..

Zion would definitely sacrifice himself and bulk up. He already did it basically for 4.5 out of 5 seasons
