Time to pivot to trading for a center

BI has to know he wont get maxed, so what should be the number and what would you be happy with ?

I wouldn’t give him more than he’s currently making with 8% raises. That would translate to a 4/175 extension, place options however you want.
Will he take that? Nope
Unfortunately we are at a time with the new CBA where teams are having to adjust, and players will be a few years behind that adjustment, but Pelicans and BI will be the poster child for the adjustment

The important thing is they were able to take advantage of another team with problems and trade 3 dimes for a quarter.
Find a cheap center, see what happens. At best you get something at the deadline, at worst you let him walk for nothing next summer, but you already have replaced his value with Murray. Griff shouldn’t feel forced to do anything regarding Ingram.

Well we only have a $9m TPE and a $5m TPE to work with unless we send someone out like BI, CJ, Hawkins, etc.
That kind of limits who a “cheap pickup” is. Best fit for us is Kessler, who will still cost one or more picks and fit into the Kira TPE.

We have 2 trade exceptions
If the offers for BI are trash keep him to the deadline
Flip picks as long as it isn't the one pick we have in this draft.
If this thing goes belly up for any reason...I'd be ok losing Ingram for free if Flagg was our consolation prize

This has to be posturing. We simply can’t extend BI and Trey while paying CJ, Zion, and Dejounte. That is an unbalanced roster and only one multi time All Star. The trade is inevitable.

Just give him an 8% raise from this years salary for that first year of the extension.
That’s a 4/$190ish number.
$180, $190 who gives a shite.

I said this during the season - if I was Detroit I wouldn’t trade Duren for Ingram straight up.
Ingram is just such a strange player to deal with. If you are a terrible team and add Ingram, you are still terrible.
If you are average and add Ingram you could maybe, maybe win a playoff serious. If you are a top team, you aren’t changing what you do for a high usage guy like Ingram.
So who would want to give up assets and commit cap space to that player?
The only team that might genuinely benefit from Ingram is Denver. He would do great with Jokic’s finding him for easy mid range buckets.
Or maybe a laker team desperate for one last Lebron playoff run and no other option to add players.

I do think this is posturing, we know Scoop gets leaks from “team” sources. But I don’t think it’s aimed at the trade market. I think it’s aimed at BI so he’ll sign a cheaper extension.

3 years 120 mill, player option on the 3rd year.

They’re going to end up trading him before the season begins similar to what sixers and blazers did with harden and dame. This is all about sunk cost and Griffin willing to accept it and move on.
If they don’t move Ingram, they’ll probably over pay for a center which will just compound the problem. This team still legit needs a starting center and backup 4- I just don’t know how they get that without trading Ingram or overpaying for a center if they keep Ingram.

And no one in the league is buying it either. Its another reason why the offers are crap. Teams know we have to trade him. Griffin wont be able to bullshite his way out of this one.

We traded for Murray.

Of course the team has no leverage, they have been telling every team he must go so team are not motivated to give up fair value

Didn’t you say in my other thread that Ingrams trade value was way higher than Murray and it’s not even close?
Posted on 7/11/24 at 9:07 pm to Townedrunkard
The trade value of an Ingram trade that includes an Ingram extension will be wildly different from a trade that just involves an expiring Ingram. That shouldn't really surprise anyone.
Unless Ingram concedes to a reasonable deal, his value will be based on a 1 year rental price.
