Where has the time gone? 20 years ago seems like yesterday.

Anyone else just going about their merry way and hear a song or run into a person and you are instantly traveled into another life decades ago?
One minute, you seem content and happy, and the next, for no apparent reason, a sudden feeling of nostalgic sadness washes over you as fresh memories of those people you’ve missed or opportunities that passed you by wash over you.
Is this what it is like to grow older?
I miss being six years old but didn't realize how much until now.

Every 9/11. I was 18 years old, just moved to NY, and on my first FD. I volunteered to go into Manhattan. Twenty-third anniversary of that coming up. I made two phone calls. I can still hear my mother crying when I called her to tell her I love her before it was time to go. I can still hear me brother telling me he's proud of me.
Yes, it does.

I can remember working all day in the heat, come home from work and push mow and weedeat the yard. Then play with the kids.
It’s not that I did it, many of you have or are doing it now, but how the heck was I able to. That was over 30 years ago and where did that energy go? I miss that alot….

That wasn’t energy, it was willpower. But, have you seen the price of that shite lately?
It’s cheaper to vape all day have food that’s delivered and marked up by 350% of it’s actual value with pubes in it.

2010 to now has been a blur.

This happens daily. It’s wonderful and depressing all at the same time.
How some people just wander through life and don’t have any emotion about the passage of time is strange to me.

Seems like I was taking my son to kindergarten five years ago and he's starting his Senior year in a few weeks.
Everyone said it would go by quick but I had no idea.

Yes.. You reach a point and you see that life has gone by quickly. It’s been 21 years since I graduated from professional school. I can’t even remember most of the names of the people I spent 4 years with..
Now I see how college days and youth are very far behind me and everything has to be done to maintain and prevent.
I sure miss going for a run just because I needed to sweat. I really enjoy the history I have with my wife and watching my kids go out an try to make it but also equally miss being able to run fall down and laugh or eat a whole box of little Debbie’s with no change to my weight.

Absolutely. But when I think of how many friends and acquaintances that have unfortunately not made it that far, you have to be thankful you’ve seen those years.

I just turned 40 last week and if I'm going to be honest, I'm ready to die. The only reason I don't check myself out is I've got a pretty sound fear or hell and my wife and kids need my income.

I've been told that time passes faster as you get older. I guess it's true. It doesn't seem like I've been married for 25 years and the kids grew up in a flash. Part of it could be the faster pace of life today. I thought technology was supposed to make life easier, but to me it has only made it busier. I plan on retiring in 12 years. When I do, I'm slowing the pace down as much as I can.

Been there as well at 42, a wonderful clinical psychologist saved my life. Depression runs in my family on my mom’s side. Whatever you are thinking can be resolved with professional help. Your wife and kids life without you would be irretrievably broken and they’ll blame themselves.
Get professional help asap. Like, start today.
God Bless and Good Luck.
You are worth it.

I often listen to "best of the 90s" type playlists on my streaming music service, and there are sooo many songs that make me go "damn, I haven't heard this in ages, I can't believe this song is 30 years old"

Life is absolutely filled with trials and pains, many we create and many just appear but all of them take energy. I and everyone has had their fair share. As someone who grew up in a home with 7 divorces, I can absolutely tell you that investing deeply in your wife and children is one of the greatest gifts in life. Whatever has you down it’s only temporary. Make a commitment to love your wife and work daily at being a great dad. All the other stuff comes and goes. I had no example or experience I just said I am going to do it and it is the one area of my life that has been a blessing. Man I pray for you and hope you can find strength in your trials. I hope you change perspective and find purpose in just being great at home. When that happens all the other stuff becomes real small.
Best wishes friend and like another poster said YOU are with it and so is your family..

I think when you get out of school time just starts flying by. Work and adult life is so monotonous that days melt into each other. I graduated college in 2012 and time has seemed to go faster and faster since then.

It definitely goes by fast. We are all so preoccupied with work, fun, bills, and whatever.
But as an OU fan, when I think back in terms of the team, 2004 was about the last time we had a decent defense. And that my friends seems like forever ago.

I turned 57 in March. I gotta tell ya, I don't feel it. Not even close.
Well, my body sometimes does. I'm very active and in good shape and that helps, but injuries take a lot longer to heal, and there's always a nagging pain somewhere. Very rarely do I feel unstoppable like I did in my 20s and 30s.
But I am a "young at heart" kinda guy who still looks of the childish humor in things and doesn't take anything too seriously. I have good genetics too. People think I'm in my early 40s.
But the time. MAN, it has flown. I remember the 80s like it was yesterday, I graduated high school in 85.
But the 90s are not quite as clear, college and first real job, marriage...
The 2000's to now, shite. WTF happened? That's 24 years and it seems like 4.
Not too long ago a buddy and I were listening to Night Moves by Bob Segar.
When the last verse finished he said. Damn, That last part. I never REALLY thought about what he was saying. It hits different now.
Autumn is closing in fellas. Don't waste it.

I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in
Autumn is closing in fellas. Don't waste it.

15 years ago feels more like yesterday for me. Whenever I go on LSU campus I think damn, I'm old. I normally still kind of see myself as a dumb kid until I'm around dumb kids.
