Cold turkey quitting nicotine

Started yesterday morning. So far, not too bad. Absolutely smashing sunflower seeds. Should I expect it to get worse? Any advice? I’ve been hooked for about 6 years
ETA: mainly Zyn for past 3 years, prior to that long cut.

6 years ago, cigs for about 8 months.
Then switched to long cut for about 2.5-3 years. Been doing Zyn since then. Never really vaped.

It's no fun, especially for the first two weeks. I would clean out any spaces where you used to smoke -- I basically detailed my truck and got rid of the ashtrays on the deck.
I still wanted one for the first year, but it gets easier after two weeks. Good luck, this is not a decision you will ever regret. I quit about 20 years ago.

Eight years ago, I dipped into drinking Beam-and-cokes all day instead of smoking and haven't looked back.

Pain...severe pain. It's really not day 1; it's day 3, 4, 5., etc.
Drink plenty of water, as it helps flush the nicotine out of your system. If you drink, I would abstain from all alcohol until you've successfully quit.
Be aware of habits that are associated with smoking/tobacco use such as smoking with a cup of coffee, lighting up when you get in the car, or smoking when consuming alcohol. Understand those moments, initially, will trigger a craving. BUT THEY PASS.
Get on a treadmill or walk for 45 minutes every day.
And finally, stay the course. Realize that the next few weeks are gonna suck but the payoff is so worth it.

Such a hard vice to delete but it IS doable!
I quit for 3yrs after dipping for 25 and for some dumbass reason started again.

Depends what it is. Vapes/smoking, I have no clue. Dipping/Pouches, I found sunflower seeds and mints were good because on top of the nicotine the act gives a dopamine hit. I found altoids or similar would give a calming affect just from the placebo of the mint tucked into my lip. I did dip and snus for the better part of 15 years before I went cold turkey four years ago. Good days and bad for the first month or so, don't replace the urge with food if it hits. If it gets too bad go for a run or a lift to trick your brain into thinking that's what it wanted. Good luck and don't bum one for at least a year, and don't buy if you want it to stick.

I quit dipping for 10 solid years. Cold turkey.
One night completely derailed those 10:years.

When I did many years ago I found week two to be the hardest followed by weeks one and three. After a month it was down hill and over.

Thanks for all the advice. Day two hasn’t been bad so I was wondering if it gets worse and worse until finally it breaks.

I quite a few years ago. You need to not only break the habit of nicotine but when you do it. For example, when you get in your car or after a meal. The cravings never really go away, they just become easier to manage
Here’s my one additional piece of advice….. once you decide to quit, you can never have “just 1 drag” or “just 1 cigarette”, or “just 1 dip”. If you do, the cycle starts all over again. The other day a friend of mine asked me to hold his cigarette while he did something. I told him absolutely not and to either put it out or find an ashtray

I did the same thing with zyn.
Dipped cope for 7 or 8 years. Quit for financial/health reasons. Tried zyn a few months ago after over 10 years without nicotine and was immediately hooked.

Dipped for 10 years. Quit a few months ago and doing nicotine pouches. At the moment I can't imagine quitting nicotine all together. Good luck to you and hopefully I can do this someday.

At the 72 hour mark I almost physically broke. Made it past that and had strong cravings for 3 weeks. So three days and three weeks. I smoked for 18 years, quit cold turkey and never had another cigarette. Now I can’t believe I ever smoked, it’s like it was someone else.

I quit cold turkey 22 years ago after smoking for much of my adult life up till then. I was smoking between 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day and decided enough was enough.
I've not had a single cigarette in my mouth in all that time and don't miss it one bit.
Only advice I have is to do your best to avoid smokers for a while if that is possible. I had no issue with it since I was an avid dart player and played in bars long before the smoking bans went into effect, but some folks just can't handle the temptation.
You'll get there if you are really ready to be done with them, Good luck.

quote:Terrible idea. I never thought quitting nicotine would be as hard as Copenhagen long cut until I got a vape to help expedite the process.
Vapes?
Now 8 years later it's been hell quitting the vape - and I smoked over a pack of Marlboro lights a day back in college, cigs don't compare. Many, many former cigarette and snuff users say the same thing about quitting vapes.
To the OP, you'll quit when you want to. It's gonna get worse before it gets better, and it'll likely be a long time before the random cravings subside.
It really is true that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
