Wtf are you talking about? There’s no way you actually graduated from LSU, or if you did, it’s proof DEI watered down the University to the point that it’s now basically BRCC south.

Reasonable dispute.

From a conservative standpoint, the argument for would be competition and markets creating optimal outcomes and the argument against is it would be an entitlement program.

The goal is to inject meritocracy back into education.

It will never happen unless you break the teacher's union.

Vouchers is a vehicle that might do that.

It is their role

Maybe it should be, maybe it shouldn't be but currently it is what they do,

The current model is broken. Govt monopolies on education isnt going to fix anything.

The fact is regressives have made public education in many places untenable for decent people.

The result is we can't have nice things of which public education should be one.

Public education as a whole is broken— there is no doubt. I love what Tom Sowell used to say about public education— paraphrasing, that if he were racist and wanted to keep blacks as a permanent underclass he would create the American public education system.

The issue with vouchers is there is no evidence or data that shows that vouchers / school choice actually works.

Instead of every student headed to a high school that is a college prep curriculum with some vocational electives, the “choice” should be a technical high school (trades, CDLs, nursing, Rx techs, etc.) or traditional college prep.

Hell, let the state testing determine placement.

But as long as our communities, particular the cultcha communities are broken, our schools will be broken. Schools reflect the communities they serve.

Look at my user name. Our high schools here rival or surpass any private school in LA. Why is that? Katy is a decent, suburban, educated, professional community whose residents want safe neighborhoods and good schools.

Guess what they get?

They work perfectly. They allow people who hate their school to go to another school.

All of public education is an entitlement program by that definition.

How is it different from giving a free education in a public school other than it being better and cheaper?

How is being moved to a nice neighborhood from the ghetto different since the money is going to get spent?

The potential voucher recipients currently get what they pay for a public education. Others choose to sacrifice to provide their kids a private education. They get what they pay for.

This is not conservative, at all
quote:

Why should his small-town constituents be subsidizing the private education of metropolitan rich kids? “I’m for less government, but it’s government’s role to provide a good public education,” he said. “If you want to send your kid to private school, then you should pay for it.”

Dont let the cities keep more of the taxes they pay, keep sending their money to the rural areas, So we dont have to pay more for our own schools

Lulz

I bet he doesnt want to compare the tax revenue between the cities and his area. This is as liberal a philosophy as it gets. "Give me want I want, using other peoples money"
