Democratic New York Rep. Joe Morelle announced Monday that he will file a constitutional amendment that will virtually invalidate the Supreme Court's recent ruling on presidential immunity.

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that presidents have presidential immunity for some "official acts," but not unofficial ones, which means they cannot be prosecuted for "official acts." However, it did not specify what constitutes official versus unofficial acts.

Critics of the new ruling claim that the high court has essentially made it so a president is "above the law" because they cannot be prosecuted for their official actions under normal law, according to The Hill. But sitting presidents who commit crimes while in office can still be impeached and removed by the Senate.

“I will introduce a constitutional amendment to reverse SCOTUS’ harmful decision and ensure that no president is above the law," Morelle wrote on X. "This amendment will do what SCOTUS failed to do—prioritize our democracy."

Good. Let’s force a serious conversation about the consequences one way or the other. Do we want Democrat Presidents to be “above the law” We already know that they would use nefarious powers mor effectively than Republicans.

For goodness sakes Democrats just shut up with your use of the word democracy.

Your party has already taken that concept and thrown it through the shedder.

This has been and remains about nothing more than YOUR power and the ability to exert YOUR control over any and all things that threaten it.

You wouldn’t recognize “democracy” if it came up and smacked you between the eyes.

No President technically is above the law.

It is why we have impeachment and removal.

No one will say out loud that the system is broken. As impeachment was made to be a joke.

If no one trusts the democrats or GOP establishment. The system is stuck with a cog in the machinery.

Yes it did. An official act is the President using one of his core, constitutional powers. It didn't specify what constitutes a quasi-official act and remanded it to the lower courts to make a decision first per the principal of the Supreme Court being the court of last review, not first review. Good lord journalists need to read the actual decision. It's not that long.

Maybe the DemProgFilth will take the same approach with abortion instead of relying on the courts???

It’s about time all of Congress started taking the job seriously and stop passing the buck. Legislation IS Congress’s job not the judicial nor executive branches.

The process of Amendment is literally spelled out so let them try. Good luck getting the votes!

Do these idiots not realize that both Obama and Biden will be going to jail if SCOTUS said otherwise?

I think the democrat is awaiting his election. Does he think this will help, when NY seats have gone moderate?

Great. If Congress can agree that they don’t like the interpretation of the way the Constitution is written, they have the ability to change it.

…that is how it works

Can’t wait for them to go after Barack Obama for murdering US citizens. Gonna be real awkward when Big Mike can’t run for president because Barry’s in jail.

Let’s be honest, have we had a president where official acts was called into question to prosecute?

I know contra Reagan, Nixon, Clinton, bush, Obama have all had what use to be referred to as scandal with someone taking the fall and then the country moved on.

This ruling pretty much keeps that but now the Democrats want to lawfare every president they disagree with. Who doesn’t see where this will only implode.
