Well deserved. He's that energy glue guy off the bench who will play for 10+ years. Jack of all trades.

Complete agree. I would really hate it if spurs got him. Seeing him 4 times a year and being extra motivated against us would really suck.

I don’t understand why they can’t keep him other than the team being cheap as frick

It’s a damn shame because I loved Naji. Happy he’s getting paid though. He can be the heart of a good bench The Pels just lost a big time guy in the locker room and on the court. We were already lacking dogs on this team and we just lost one more

Honestly because they dont trust Willie using him properly and getting the young guys minutes. As much as I love Naji, Willie will not give the young guys minutes over Naji.

Maybe they anticipate he's going to get a lot more than any of us here think.

Naji is better than the young guys and 26 years old. I assure you that isn’t the issue.

I do think we should keep him if it’s around $8m/yr, but sounds like he might get MLE money if they are already assuming they’ll lose him.

There many of us who wanted to trade Naji at the deadline so guys like Hawk and Dyson could get more minutes. Willie has an issue of overusing Naji- hes a good player but at times Willie over relied upon him. It stunts the growth of guys who the team has invested first round picks in.

Fans wanted to see the young guys play. Because that’s what fans do. But Naji was better and Willie did exactly what he should have done. Naji isn’t signing else where because our coach should have played lesser players.

Hawkins and Dyson are not lesser players than Naji. Dyson is a better defender than Naji and Hawkins is a better shooting threat. I am not demeaning Naji. He has been great for us but Willie’s reliance upon Naji took away important development minutes for this teams first round picks who have the potential to be much better than Naji.

Look, Naji was only 25 when the season started. Can handle the ball, drive, run the break, one of our best lob throwers, plays defense and shot damn near 39% from three in a wing sized body. He only played 19 minutes a game, and every one of them earned. I know fans want to see the rookies/first round picks. But they had no right playing over Naji last season. I would like to think that’s pretty obvious, and will be shown by his market in FA pricing us out.

Whats it tell you that the pelicans are ok with him leaving and not trying to retain him? Again I think Naji was great but hes not a part of this teams core or its future.
I love Naji but it will be interesting to see if he gets the same minutes and success on another team.

So you really believe the Pelicans don’t want Naji back?

BI and Naji are apparently really cool also. So if you expect BI to be gone, it makes sense that Naji would be gone too.

I think they want him back at THEIR number not the market’s. I don’t think they value him enough to compete with other teams for him.

Naji was a great value contract with us, but don’t think I want to pay him 8-9 million a year or possibly more. DD and Hawk need to play more and develop, they both have way higher ceilings. Giving contracts for players like him can get you into being a tax team. Which we don’t need right now.,

It also depends on how they feel about the in house replacements. People have already mentioned more minutes for Dyson and Hawk, I’m curious if they think someone like Seabron is ready to step up and become a rotation player.

I'm prepared to give Sydney Sweeney 15 mins of exercise but that doesn't mean it's gonna happen.
