Never thought it would be this close. Assumed it was an unreachable feat. I hate Tennessee.

Can we start the whining like we did about Pete Maravich's record?

I wonder how many HRs we would've hit in 1997 if our field dimensions resembled theirs.

Left Field: 320 ft
Left-Center Field: 360 ft
Center Field: 390 ft
Right-Center Field: 360 ft
Right Field: 320 ft

I wonder how many we’d have hit with the juiced balls they’re using now. Our record aside, HR numbers are higher nation-wide than the gorilla ball 90s.

Tamu starter tomorrow hasn’t given up an earned run in over 15 innings.

That's a whole bunch of high fly balls.

It’s crazy when you think about it. There were juiced bats and juiced players in the mid to late 90s. The season 1998 was the last year of the old bats and there were 1.06 HR per game in college baseball. That stood until last year when there were 1.14 per game. My guess is with only 20 rounds in the draft, there are more talented players in college now than ever before. Pitchers are also throwing harder than ever before and that yields more HRs. And technology is greater and you measure things like launch angle and to increase HRs. All that being said, I didn’t think anyone would approach the numbers of the late 90s with the bats they were using. Couple that with steroids being more prevalent in all levels of baseball back then, I’m surprised someone didn’t get killed.

Record is safe, and that 1997 team hit 188 in 70 games, UTenn has hit 180 and tonight’s game will be game 72 for them…they are not the same…not even close! ????

Left Field: 320 ft
Left-Center Field: 360 ft
Center Field: 390 ft
Right-Center Field: 360 ft
Right Field: 320 ft

and elevation is 857 ft above sea level

LSU for reference

Left Field: 330 ft (+10)
Left-Center Field: 365 ft (+5)
Center Field: 405 ft (+15)
Right-Center Field: 365 ft (+5)
Right Field: 330 ft (+10)
Elevation 7 feet above sea level

for comparison's sake, here are the home runs by Tenn at home and away, hopefully, my math is correct.

They had 126 home runs in 44 home games, which is 2.86 per game at home.

They had 54 home runs in 27 games away (including neutral sites), which is 2 per game.

If you look at neutral sites, they had 17 home runs in 12 games, which is 1.42 per game.

In Omaha they have 7 in 4 games which equates to 1.75 per game.

vs SEC teams, they have averaged 2.23 per game and 1.2 per game in neutral sites (Hoover and Omaha).

If A&M can close them out today, I feel confident LSU holds on to the record. If not, I still think LSU holds on but I will be a little nervous.
