Wife wants to go to Graceland. Long story short. Her mother was a huge Elvis fan. She made my wife a fan. Well she passed away. Now my wife really wants to go.

Just looking for a place to stay and not be murdered for a night before heading back home.

Thanks.

If you want something out of the ordinary stay at The Peabody.

Its not cheap but it is something that was cool IMO

Best Western Plus Gen X on Madison - Trying to be funky. Coming close.

Holiday Inn Medical Center Midtown On Union Avenue. Hot popcorn in the lobby at 3, fresh baked cookies after 4

My fave - The Hotel Napoleon (corner of BB King and Madison Downtown Can be pricey! Get best values via Priceline or other. Has Valet parking.

Two more. Up near the Renesant Comvention Center, there is a Sheraton Memphis Dowtown and a Crowne Plaza Memphis Downtown. Both were good.. Be aware that EVERY hotel in Memphis - even the crappy ones - believes it is worth $100 a night.

Bunch of hotels around Poplar and 240 in East Memphis that are about as safe as you can get there. I lived in the area for a while. There is a Ruth’s Chris and Flemings in the area, so you know it’s a decent part of town. Still not a 100% safe but nowhere is around there. You are within 20 minutes of every part of Memphis, easy drive to Graceland.

Whatever you do, don’t stay anywhere near Graceland. I wouldn’t even stop for gas in that area.

The most important part of this thread you’ll get OP

Go to Graceland and leave.

I’m with The Peabody suggestions. Beale St just a couple blocks away, the Rendezvous BBQ across the street, down the alley…

Been to memphis at least a dozen times.

I would stay in East Memphis and just drive to the Peabody and Graceland as day trips.

The zoo is amazing, and there is a nice Botanical Gardens.

I really like Memphis, but don't mess around. It can get bad quickly.

Graceland area is VERY dangerous. Do not stop and I would visit during the middle of the day.

Otherwise, recommend staying downtown. Or, if you are into outdoors, there is a hotel inside the Pyramid with the Bass Pro Shops.

Peabody is cool but the rooms are small and the walls are thin. Have a drink there, stay at the new Central Station hotel.

BBQ Shop is my favorite. Unique part of town as well.

Lived in Memphis for 4 years. Lots of character. Stay out of bad areas (duh) and would agree about a targeted visit to Graceland.

If you want to do the whole Memphis thing, stay at the Peabody, eat at Flight, Itta Bena, somewhere like that, go to Graceland.

Memphis has a pretty good zoo too if it’s not too hot. We take our daughter two or three times a year.

If you don’t want to do downtown Memphis, just find a Hampton Inn or similar in Southaven.

Really really good and underrated BBQ.

Problem is that it Was in a sketchy area when we lived there over a decade ago, and I doubt it’s gotten any better.

Also, there used to be a cheesecake place downtown. Not sure if it’s still there but it was the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten. Can’t remember the name of it off hand

If it’s still there you should go.

I agree with the assessment of "Out East", Poplar Ave near I-240. It's the nicest part of Memphis. A hospital complex creates hotel demand. I've stayed at Doubletree by Hilton a couple of times.

There's not a whole lot to do in that part of town, but the 1st house Elvis owned is nearby LINK

Don't worry about the immediate Graceland area being dangerous. It's a well-run tour. You park in a safe area and are bussed across a busy street to the high-security grounds. I enjoyed a single visit, although it was rather impersonal. There are plenty of Memphis people with ties to Presley. Most are in their 80's and none that I know of are involved with Graceland.

Nah, Madison in Midtown is totally fine.

The recommendation to eat at Flight is a great one for downtown. Restaurant is legit and stacks up against the best in just about any city.
