Needs to get new tires for my wife's vehicle. Sams has the best prices and their tire installation package offer is pretty impressive. Am I screwing up by letting Sams install tires?

My last set of tires were bought from and installed by Walmart… not a single issue. Will do it again

I'd rather have Sam's do it over one of the middle east tire shops sprouting up

We had an issue with the tpms sensors after install, but it wasn't a big enough deal to even take it back to correct.

my local mom/pop shop uses the same shite labor pool as walmart. Really just hit or miss on who you get to do it. I leave a 5 or 10 spot on steering wheel as a tip so maybe they care just a little more on my stuff.

Got my tires from Sam's back in December. No issues. Bringing my truck back to let them rotate/balance soon.

Nah. They employ the same quality of employee as every other tire shop

I've used Sam's for at least 7 sets of tires over the years. Always decent.

Switched over recently to Discount tire due to convenience and have been pleased.

There are always going to be 2 key points to address with tires:

1) can you get the tires you want/need?
2) how convenient is it to get things installed and serviced?

#1 is the first thing. You need the correct tires. Not an issue with a lot of vehicles, but it sometimes can be.

Case in point, I have a couple vehicles- a Silverado and a pair of Miatas. For the truck, there's a lot of tire options, no big deal. For the little roadsters, choices are limited. You don't just want any tire, you want something decent that gives you traction and performance, even if you're just doing regular street driving. For my 1990, I was running Ohtsu fp0612's @ 185/60 R14. Those were only available at Discount Tire, and when I put them on there wasn't one in EBR, nearest was in Ascension Parish. So things like rotation and balance, hell even road hazard, were unlikely to be used= it was a long-arse drive to get there just for that. I had a nail plugged once, ended up taking it somewhere and paying out of pocket because I didn't feel like driving that far.
There's now a Discount Tire closer to me, but the Ohtsu's are discontinued. Looking at the forums, they came down to 2 comparable tires for replacements- Falken Sincera sn250's and General Altimax rt45's.

Walmart has both, with the Falkens $20 cheaper per tire, and competitive with any other place I check.
You then factor in convenience and service- Walmart is still closer to my house then almost any tire shop, and certainly anything with multiple locations. Mounting, lifetime rotation and balance, and road hazard is $28 a tire, and I can get things serviced at any Walmart tire center in the country. So if I'm in North Carolina and need road hazard, I go to the nearest Walmart to me.

who fricking downvotes this ?

I've used both (at various locations) and both have been gigantic pains-in-the-arse. I'll never used them again.

Can't speak for Sam's, but Walmart from what I have seen have standardized and dumbed down the process to an impressive extent. They provide all of the tools and equipment and have a bunch of checks and balances in place.
