How many Lawyers in Lake Charles or Lafayette would you say pull in $1,000,000+ a year?

In a group chat fight, guy said lawyers in SWLA are trashy, ambulance chasers. Other guy says they have more lawyers pulling in 7 figures than Orthopedic surgeons around here. Guy in medical field gets triggered which leads to an ongoing 2 week group chat brouhaha.

Was wondering what you guys would say. Feel free to drop names.

Looking at this website as a 3rd party to end it.

probably a lot of pretty big oilfield settlements in the area? I have a frat bro who's a neurosurgeon and lawyer in south Louisiana who writes his own checks doing oilfield injury cases

Without knowing much about the area, I’m going to say very few. A couple of the top successful plaintiffs lawyers probably. In those markets lawyers billing hours are unlikely to crack that level.

Fun fact: You’d be surprised at how little most lawyers make.

Correct. I don't really do personal injury.

You're only pulling in 7-figures consistently in LC/LAF doing a LOT of personal injury. Even "Big Law" doesn't have the scale to do that.

He is "of counsel" as of January 1st. I was referring to his grandson formally an associate with C. Howett Fields of New Orleans.

Would any corporate defense partners in those two cities make a million?

If TD was like PredictIt, I would set the over/under at 0.5

If they can use that history to represent the same companies in contracts disputes and charge contingencies. So still plaintiff-contingency stuff

I make more than most lawyers without a college degree. Unless they are ambulance chasers or malpractice.

There are a few on the defense side that are cracking 7 figures.

lots of growth in that area would fetch more project driven work.

Hurricanes always bring in big work

oilfield and port work for injuries etc…

the thing is with lawyers, it’s similar with the Realtors model career wise.

10% of the Realtors make 90% of the money. and the other ones make a living or bottom feeders.

lawyers are the same, it depends on their moral compass and how low the are willing to go as far as their main practice and industry they want to focus on.

if they have zero morals, they will be doing PI work to squeeeze every case they can and go for policy max, sometimes go after the company or individual personally.

PI work is the worst, yeah, sometimes people are legit hurt really bad etc…

but sometimes at work it can also be their fault and negligence.

but in car wrecks, the PI Atty’ will have his handful of select chiropractors that he makes side deals with to have the Chiro BUILD THE FILE/CASE, write these EXTENSIVE REPORTS & try to illustrate the worst injury possible, even at times, will overlook pre-existing injury history. then they will bring in the Chiro’s as “expert witnesses” to put on the stand and go thru the theatrics of it.

they will bill PREMIUMS, and then after the fact “negotiate the bill down” to create a better profit margin.

rinse and repeat while driving up insurance costs for regular citizens that are already high because we have to pay even higher because of the non-insured a-holes out there.

there needs to be a new insurance minimum though. i think the min is like $5,000, and they screws a person if they are really hurt.

and to run a small business with vehicle insurance, of which i do, don’t get me started on the prices & it’s all driven by these greedy lawyers!

frick em’

but there are some lawyers that have a moral compass and are cool with making a decent living and not trying to be the next Morris Bart.

lastly, every time a storm, or BP oil spill, or major deal happens. the settlements and the fines paid by BP’s of the world. the legal system ends up with more than 50% of the payouts when you add it all
in.

and CLASS ACTIONS are maybe the worst for the people.

the law firm gets retirement money & the people effected get peanuts. it’s rigged!
